Maybe this has been covered; my search-foo is weak (I'm an old man, after all).

Has DCS investigated setting up a dedicated server (or two) that are pay to play? Some nominal monthly fee associated, running campaigns/missions designed by the pros?

Recurring revenue is always a good thing, and players get a stable, well managed platform that is a known quantity.

Just curious.

Plenty of servers have paypal donation links or patreaon to help fund the servers. Its not pay for access though, which would probably go against the EULA. Some of the servers do give a benefit though for donating. Usually in the form of a personalized slot so that if your favorite aircraft happens to be the favorite of a bunch of other people, then you would always have a slot available of that type.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I think he rather means dedicated servers that are being hosted by ED itself which can then be rented by squadrons and other players. This is how it works with many AAA games nowadays, where it is not possible anymore to actually host your own server.

Personally I really dislike this trend in the industry and I hope ED will not go down that path. Well, I would be fine with it as long as the possibility to host your own server on your own system stays available and rented server will only be an alternative.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

This. Another alternative, not the only option. Not even so much a rented server (thought that's an AWS idea). Come to think of it, I wonder how a server would run on a t3.large...
