Willie Nelson Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 It’s probably been explained elsewhere but a lot of this information is scattered far and wide. Could somebody clarify what purpose the Launch and Steer or soft lock function serves if we cannot fire a missile from it, apart from just having greater situational awareness which presumably we would have from simply looking at the aptly named ‘Situational Awareness’ page. I believe I understand how it works, just not sure why I would find it of any particular benefit as yet. Oceandar Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 In DCS, you actually can fire your missiles on it. Try it. I've had success with it. As the real purpose of the LTWS I'll let other that has more info explain it for you. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
Santi871 Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Aim9 seeker is slewed to L&S. TPOD in A/A mode can be slaved to L&S. Firing AMRAAM would make it switch to TWS centered on L&S. Firing Sparrow will make it switch to STT on L&S, as would sensor control right once AACQ is finished. L&S isn't a concept specific to LTWS, it's the name of the primary a/a target of interest in the hornet's systems.
Willie Nelson Posted August 18, 2019 Author Posted August 18, 2019 Excellent concise explanation. I can see it will therefore have more relevance when TWS is implemented. Thank you kindly. i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. HP Reverb.
