falcon_120 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 So I was curious, there is always a bit of a discussion about the current implementation of air to air missiles in game where they seem a bit draggy, or better said 'short legged' due to a different number of reasons, maybe because drag coefficients are a bit high, coupled with not optimum navigation that in some circumstances made missiles take too many G's and bleed off too much speed. So I was thinking, is there any future roadmap of changes that are planned to improve any specific aspect? I remember reading that the most big thing down the road is the implementation of a new humidity system within the DCS World engine, and if I´m correct this will open the door for things like missiles dynamic contrails. Does this have other implications on missile performance? Like humidity affecting IR missiles or drag coefficient? Is there a review of Navigation system planned after that? Fuze logic maybe? What the general long term roadmap of changes that ED would like to take affecting these systems (missiles)? Regards,
Fri13 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 possible is datalink update periods to missiles and their logic how often they perform corrections etc. The weather should start effecting IR missiles performance, but as well flares performance. And chaff should stay in air for long times, spread by winds and affect all radars for long periods, causing blind areas blocking radar seeing through etc. Alone the CM and weather would affect BVR combat seriously and force to WVR combat. What would a rain do to drag in GPS air-ground missiles etc weapons for their max launches etc is another thing then too. And does a rain affect ARM accuracy? i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
nighthawk2174 Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Missiles need a lot of work and it'll be a long long long time before anything probably gets done. It's already been over 7 years since the introduction of the "advanced missile" model and many of the issues from then are still around. First on the list (from my understanding) is/needs to be kinematics fixes as these would be the simplest to do and would have a massive impact; less drag more lift. Particularly for sams who often have 50% the range they should if not less. And adding the proxy fuze code that is already in game to all the missiles that have one would be a bit of simple additional work that could/should be done at the same time.
