Cgjunk2 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) Hi all, sorry if this a noob question... I like to set some nose up pitch trim for takeoff, because it helps a lot with being able to rotate smoothly, and at a reasonable speed. But, Im guessing as to how much trim I should apply. Does the Mig have a pitch trim indicator, and is it marked for a takeoff setting? Couldn’t find anything in the flight manual. Thanks Edited October 3, 2019 by Cgjunk2
Frederf Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 There is a light which illuminates when pitch trim is neutral for takeoff. By the manual this light should be illuminated before takeoff is attempted. It is one of four in a column, rectangular on the dashboard between the radar scope and fuel gauge. The procedure by the manual is to apply about 3/4 aft stick beginning at 200 km/h or so. Personally I find the neutral trim setting far too nose heavy (it goes well over 600 km/h in climb configuration). My solution is to trim back stick until the light goes out plus the count of about 2. The trim is slow enough that a simple count is plenty accurate for the purposes.
Cgjunk2 Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 Thanks. I’ll look for that indicator light. I’ve been using the count strategy as well (about 6 seconds up trim from startup state). But it’s nice to have at least a neutral indicator in cockpit.
