JamesRothwell Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Hi, It's probably me doing something wrong, last night in an MP pve server I was trying to CCRP bomb with CBU97 in a ripple to decimate a load of vehicles spread over an area. I used the F10 map for the coordinates and altitude of the biggest group of targets, entered that manually into steerpoint 1, I had some trouble getting to accept, according to the F10 map the co-ords N42-35-39.05 E41-47-14.06 wouldn't be accept I had to enter it as N42-35-39.05 E041-47-14.06, I again presume this is normal and just my knowledge it lacking as the target pipper was in the correct area and the time to target and bomb release countdown was working fine. I tried dropping from 5kft, 12kft, 2kft, even tossing them (which was cool) but in all the times I tried the bombs didn't hit their target, I dropped 10(! - yes really, just to test) CBU97 each run and I either hit nothing or maybe one vehicle so I'm guessing I'm going something wrong. Dropping them in CCIP was highly effective and every drop from one bomb guaranteed to damage a lot of targets. Am I using CCRP wrong? Entering the data for the release solution wrong? Is it bugged? Or not even implemented yet? Not complaining or anything if it is WIP, I'm very much enjoying flying this bird around and learning it as I go.
Toertchen_Kid Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 For my understanding you can't edit the steerpointcoordinates or create a new steerpoint yet. Only in Missionbuilder.
JamesRothwell Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 It certainly adds the location onto the HUD when in Nav mode and it's there as a target in CCRP. If it makes a difference I overwrite an existing steerpoint, the MP mission already has five or six steerpoints already included from the mission editor and I just edited steerpoint 1 to the location I wanted.
backspace340 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 The CBU-97 bomblets have a tendency to smash into the ground before activating if the bomb is travelling too quickly - level drops in CCRP seem to be doing this. Try dropping in CCIP from a lower speed (e.g. 350kts), I've been more successful with that. It's been reported to ED so hopefully the bomb dispersal height is set to something more sensible like 900ft which always worked well in the A-10 (and not something silly like 1800ft which is the A-10's default and useless if there's any wind).
JamesRothwell Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 Yes lower speed and somewhat low altitude CBU97 drops in CCIP are absolutely brutal but it puts me at risk of AA fire and naughty manpads etc, I wanted to drop them from pretty high up or toss them into the area. Being able to adjust the dispersal alt seems like it's the way to use them in CCRP. Thanks for your feedback.
