markriley Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 When running a resolution of 1680x1050, should I need to use any AA and AF or will I just be slowing things down at that point? If I should use AA and AF...how much? Thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] system specs: AMD 1100T X6, Asus Crosshair 4 Formula Mobo, 16 Gigs GSkill DDR3, XFX R9-290X 4GB 512-Bit, X-52 flight stick set, Samsung 2560x1440, Win7 64
SuperKungFu Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 this really depends on your system specs and your preference. For example, i run on the same resolution for lock on on my laptop. In my view, i need AA up to 2x only, and everything seems smooth. I don't need AF since i don't see anything jaggy lines in the distance either. So if you can live your your current eye candy, then there's no need for AA or AF. But if you really want to have AA or AF, i see a lot of people set theirs to 4xAA and 8xAF. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
markriley Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 My system specs (which I guess I should put in my sig) are: FX-60 dual core at 2.7ghz, 2Gigs OCZ PC4000 DDR1 RAM 3,3,3,7 HIS x850xt Platinum AGP Graphics card, X-52 flight stick set, Samsung 21.5 inch lcd 1680x1050 Oh and what about "wait for vertical refresh" option? I have the following choices in ati settings: Always off, Off unlesss Application specifies on unless Application specifies Always on [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] system specs: AMD 1100T X6, Asus Crosshair 4 Formula Mobo, 16 Gigs GSkill DDR3, XFX R9-290X 4GB 512-Bit, X-52 flight stick set, Samsung 2560x1440, Win7 64
SuperKungFu Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 vertical sync (along with triple buffering) helps the "tearing." When you look around your cockpit with a trackir and if you see small tearings, then turn it on. If not, then you don't need it. on/off unless application specifies are for games that actually have turn on v sync in the options menu, but for lock on, there is none. So basically your choice is on or off. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
markriley Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 Ok thanks for the info. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] system specs: AMD 1100T X6, Asus Crosshair 4 Formula Mobo, 16 Gigs GSkill DDR3, XFX R9-290X 4GB 512-Bit, X-52 flight stick set, Samsung 2560x1440, Win7 64
Kuky Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 turn V-Sync ON at all times (saves on CPU/VGU workload when both can do much more then 60fps) as well as eliminating image "tearing" For your card I think 2xAA and 4xAF is good compromise.
