SA Page Wingman Symbol

Hello guys

 

I know that in the SA page of the Hornet wingmans have an A B C symbol. However, how do I assign someone as my wingman? Is it exclusive to the mission editor? Set them as a group flight and thats it? Or can I assign someone to be my wingman on the go?

AFAIK it's exclusive to the mission editor i.e. the wingmen are part of the same group.
