Neon_20 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 When we are in A-A mode with a target lock and ready to fire an aim-120 just below the Dynamic Launch Zone there is timer Axx and later Txx and according the to the manual “Time to missile radar active” can you guys explain this one better to me ? What it means something like A17? Thanks
kengou Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 A17 would mean the missile will go active (using its onboard radar) in 17 seconds, which is when you can break lock and go defensive and allow the missile to continue guiding. After that it changes to time to impact. Neon_20 Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 Wasn't ware of that, 17 seconds guiding the missile is a lot! Anyway thanks
Bobik2002 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Is something similar in hornet? Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk Ryzen 9 5900x | 32GB DDR4 | RTX 3090 | 32GB RAM
Harker Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Is something similar in hornet? Yes, the HUD will display XX ACT, where XX is the time-to-pitbull and then switch to XX TTG, XX being the time-to-target. The radar page will display two numbers at the bottom of the radar scope, the left one being the degrees the bandit needs to turn to evade and the right one being the time-to-pitbull for the next selected active missile on the rail. The supported missile's symbol on the radar scope will also get an A next to it when the missile goes active. Once it's active, you're free to disengage or switch to another target. Cytarabine Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Well you can still go defensive just be mindful of your radars gimbal limits if you want to maintain track, you can also break early and if I recall the AIM-120 should continue on inertial guidance until it turns its radar on and if it sees the target go pitbull. Of course if your target is not in the field of vision when the radar goes active (for instance they maneuver) then it will miss. Now if an enemy is silly enough to keep flying straight ahead guiding their SARH missile when you fired in TWS and their first warning was an AMRAAM going pitbull, they could be in for a bad day.
