Hi Folks,

I have tried every thing I can think of to get rid of Ghosting/distortion on the canopy when on take off and landing runs.

I dont have this problem with either IL2 BOS or XP11.

Are other people having this problem in DCS with the Index/Steam or do I have a quirk in my DCS set up I need to sort out?

Thanks.

Make sure "motion smoothing" is turned off in SteamVR - I think that is what you are experiencing.

Leave on motion smoothing or it's really bad. What's happening is your frame rate is dropping below 45. The Index takes more supersampling to look good than say a Reverb that has a higher native resolution. Supersampling takes a LOT of processing power and when you're on the ground there are many more textures to process. Lastly, DCS doesn't have very good VR optimization to start with. My specs are in my Sig and I still have the same issue.

Hi Folks,

How old is your install of DCS?

Did you use rift (or any other HMD) before getting the Index?

My install of DCS is not that old but I was using the Rift with it before I got the Index.

Maybe DCS doent like the switch and maybe another clean reinstall is the answer?

But I dont want to go through that all again to find its made no difference.

Turning motion smoothing off gets rid of the ghosting on the canopy but then the scenery is blurred.

Thanks.

Personally the index was my 1st HMD. I am using the motion smoothing on (108% it tells me).

With no realistic way of comparing what we see in 3D its anybodies guess what each of us are experiencing.

My choice of settings gives me a steady 60fps most of the time. Index set at 120hz. When it does dip the only reason i am aware is if i have the counter on screen.

Using Nvidea GPU

I have that issue as well when the frames dip. Keep in mind there are two different motion smoothing options. There's one for SteamVR DCS Application Supersampling and another in SteamVR custom resolution settings. You can turn them both off and then it goes to reprojection I believe. It's basically a matter of low frame rates. For me it's worse having my frames spiking up and down all the time.
