SmoglessPanic Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Hello, I wanted to see if perhaps I am doing something wrong or if this is just the way things are when it comes to DCS and VR on multiplayer servers. I bought a Rift S a couple of months ago and used it with my 980ti until I could afford an upgrade. I recently purchased a 2080 Super FTW3 and added an additional 16GB of RAM for a total of 32GB. My performance is quite bad when I play on multiplayer servers, it's choppy, laggy, and sort of looks like it's raining when I do a roll sometimes. It wasn't as bad with the 980ti, I keep the settings relatively low for multiplayer but bump them up a bit for single player campaigns/missions etc. I found Thud's Rift setup guide and have my setting pretty much the same. Is there anything I could do or try to get my experience to be better on multiplayer servers? For example Growling Sidewinder server is unplayable, Through the Inferno is playable but barely, in the JDF server I have issues appearing to lag to other players. Any thoughts or advise would be appreciated. I was a sworn TrackIR advocate until I decided to experiment by buying the Rift S and now I can never go back. System and Setup: i7 6700K - 4.5ghz 32GB of RAM 2080 Super FTW3 (I've overclocked the card a bit) Rift S Oculus Tray Tool Oculus Home disabled (I believe that's all the info that would be needed, if I missed something please let me know and I will gladly answer) Thanks!
Harlikwin Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 What is your ping time, network connection, and number of "3L33t D00DZ" on the server? New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
SmoglessPanic Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 What is your ping time, network connection, and number of "3L33t D00DZ" on the server? Ping: GS Server: 29-32 TTI Caucus: 90 JDF: 144 Connection: Hard wired directly to the modem. Not sure what you mean: and number of "3L33t D00DZ" I guess it's Phrack or something but no clue...

A lot of servers when they fill up performance will suffer. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. SmoglessPanic Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Yea those two servers (GS/TTI Caucasus) are mostly full, I try the TTI Nevada and Persian Gulf servers since they normally have less users but they don't look as good as you would think. I know both locations are in the dessert but it looks like IR radiating from the ground when I'm in there. I'm doing a round of Windows updates right now to see if maybe I need those I mean couldn't hurt. Do most VR users just play single player or create their own servers to use with buddies? Also, do most VR users have to keep lower settings? (at least for now until they do Vulkan or whatever fixes they plan on doing) I guess I'm just trying to also find out how most users experience is with VR, I hate it when the trees only populate as you are near them and I wonder if that's the same for everyone. Thanks for the response, I appreciate the help!
Harlikwin Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 I play on blueflag in VR all the time. No issues if the server isn't full to the gills. Same with GAW and others. SmoglessPanic Posted December 6, 2019 Author Posted December 6, 2019 I've updated everything I possibly could, I logged onto F99th with about 4-6 people and it's like my system can barely keep up, really disappointing/disheartening. Going to keep trying I like single and multiplayer since it's just me most of the time multiplayer is appealing, I will lower the settings to lower than low to see if that helps. It's going to look bad but as long as it's smooth. Maybe I should put this Rift S on sale and try for a Reverb.
SmoglessPanic Posted December 6, 2019 Author Posted December 6, 2019 I ditched the Oculus Tray Tool and decided to try the in game settings as a last resort. MSAA x4 really cleared up my issue, it's not perfect but it makes it a hell of a lot more playable in multiplayer. I tested GS server with all the settings down it's actually playable a bit laggy but playable, other servers showed more improvement. SSAA seemed to intensive but more testing is required, I see a ray of light finally! I appreciate your feed back Harlikwin, it helped to at least bounce some ideas of off someone.
