Hi all,

I recently picked up the F-14 module and have been having a great time with it.

I'm new to DCS and the FC3 module was my intro but picked up the Tomcat after a week.

I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping you fine folks can point out my mistakes.

I've been building my own missions to help learn the systems and I was trying to learn the ins and outs of firing the Phoenix.

So I created a mission with 6 Bears about 80 miles away on a direct bearing and the same altitude as my Tomcat.

When starting up I go to AA mode, Master arm on and select my AIM-54s

I tell Jester to switch to TWS mode.

In the radar I will only see one or two of the six contacts, even though they are all clustered together pretty close.

Even as I push in it seems like I can never get all six to display on the radar.

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

I believe there is a way to separate the contacts on the screen. But I just don't remember how. I think it has to be done from the backseat, as Jester may not be able to do it himself.

A few things come to mind:

-targets may be too close together for the WCS to detect or display them all

-targets may be so far apart that they don't all fit in the scanning cone of your radar (unlikely at 80nm)

-if the bears are cold, the doppler filter may be removing them, because of similar speeds compared to your aircraft

-if the bears don't have their flight path defined for long, they will reach the end of it pretty quickly, and then turn to land at the nearest airbase. That turn may be causing them to notch you, and drop for your radar. Double check that the bears are told to fly towards you for a long time

-radar elevation may be wrong (very unlikely, but worth double checking)

I reccomend you put an awacs in your mission for your coalition, and see where the contacts are, and what are they doing. Might clear up why things arent going well.

Best of luck!

Thanks, appreciate the response! I will check on these. I do have them flew towards me, but they are very close together, maybe try spacing them out farther and moving them back to 100+ miles. Great suggestion on the awacs. I thought about that but wanted to keep all other external variables out until I had this system nailed! Thanks again.
