A quarter of its reviews were just a single star ... this other product is very similar, but less expensive and from a more reputable maker:

OK I know why they are having that problem because I had the same issue.

They need this driver which cost 2.99 USD.

https://codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/

That being said them missing the driver does not make this a bad product though I admit it should have come with the purchase.

I personally use a PS3 CAM with OpenTrack and I assure you it works as well or better than TrackIR.

Also you pointed out that 25 percent gave it 1 star (which I assure you is due to the missing driver) but failed to mention that 45 percent gave it 5 stars. That is a bit disingenuous of you.

There is also the issue of the company that you posted gave the price in pounds. So I am guessing it has to be imported for an American consumer. After the exchange rate and import cost I don't know that Delan would be much cheaper. Comment on that if you care to do so.

$52.30 USD for the Delan VS $59.92 for the S18 , so yeah by the time you add import cost I doubt the Delan is cheaper for American consumers.

DCS has a worldwide user base, so for many of us, having to pay taxes and shipping would be a fact for both alternatives.

Where I live, a track ir, any version is easily $300+, $200 using dodgy ebay sellers.

I consider a rift-s for $500 a fairly good get.

For the price it's no better than the TrackHat Clip kit (which is essentially the same product):

https://www.trackhat.org/product-page/trackhat-clip-head-tracking-kit

or the DelanClip Gamer:

https://delanengineering.com/products/head-tracking-delanclip-gamer/

or any of the other no-name head tracking kits that you can pick up on eBay:

Not saying that it's worse, but there's also no reason to pick it over the other products and vice versa.

I got the DelanClip Gamer kit (£39.99 -> 52,67 USD).

https://delanengineering.com/products/head-tracking-delanclip-gamer/

and the Strap Mount (£4.39 -> 5.78 USD)

https://delanengineering.com/shop/Strap-Mount-for-DELANCLiP-p69711729

Shipping from UK not included.

I used the DelanClip kit (PS3 camera + DelanClip) for a year and I would say the little metal frame is extremely sturdy (I've read similar plastic frames, not so much). With a head set or some other way to mount it, the Strap Mount isn't needed of course.

I did not have to buy a driver software to make the camera work. I followed this guide:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34403-a-complete-guide-to-set-up-head-tracking-opentrack/

and this, I believe, was the driver software I had to download (but not pay for)

For the PS3 Eye camera, you will need to install the CL-Eye Platform Drivers from Code Laboratories: https://mega.nz/#!QkAjnBwD!-ULu08uFwGK5hl7ugbFZfuAw2hIdFpwVtn-jewThrN8
An important note of a small error in the Sturmovik guide. These menu settings (image below) are part of the OpenTrack software, they are not part of the CL-Eye Test software (as image erroneously suggest). OpenTrack menu is: PointTracker Settings -> Camera Settings

These particular settings, especially gain / exposure are of a make-or-break character. With them set Tracking works almost out of the box (plus weeks of tweaking, not just curves, also threshold and other ... stuff). Without gain/exposure set as indicated, Tracking essentially doesn't work at all (dots are fuzzy and whole image full of artifacts. Gain needs minimized and exposure needs maxing out. After that there's three dots with zero background noise. Higher sampling setting 125 fps (320x240 res) works better than 60 fps (640x480) IMHO.

I did read a lot of reading opinions reviews and found the opinion (by some at least) that the PS3 camera + clip solution is just as good as the more than 5x more expensive TrackIr
