I am having a frustrating time on what I know should be a simple thing. I am doing something wrong but not sure what, please could somebody assist?

I am trying to lock a target. The target is visible on the radar. Master mode is armed, air to air selected, I slew the TDC aquisition cursor over the target and press TDC depress, the vertical scan bars quickly centre over the immediate area where the target is but doesnt lock/designate it. After about 5 seconds the vertical scan bars return to scanning normally.

I read somewhere about pressing TDC depress twice over the target, but the 2nd press just causes the TDC cursor to return to the top corner, then I have to slew it back to the target all over again.

The antenna elevation caret is (I believe) set correctly.

I do not think any other button presses are associated with the TDC depress that I have assigned to my HOTAS. The same thing happes if I press the enter key.

This seems to be happening in TWS and RWS.

Please can somebody correct my noobishness.

Thanks

If you have Data link enabled, make sure the elevation and bar setting brackets the target.

It is possible that the target you see is a ‘donor’ target that is outside you radars scan zone
