ButtKicker Fan mod

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I did have a question about which Fan to get but I just decided to try the fan I found on Amazon as it states it has 57CFM I figured that should be good enough to hopefully keep my Buttkicker a little cooler..

This started last night after I rediscovered the SimShaker for Aviators and the payware Addon from Andre.

Well I did a flight last night in the AJS-37 Viggen and noticed the Buttkicker getting a bit warmer then usual. I guess because the effect on the Engine Rumble was a bit more with the Addon..

I know I could turn down the Buttkicker but the setting I had it on last night was a perfect blend of whenre I want it and since it was only a 20minute flight and it was getting warm I decided to get a fan mod made for the ButtKicker..

Also last night I Googled for Fan mods but did not find much so I was talking with a friend and he was saying that a regular case fan should be good enough.. I did have a post about what size fan would be the best like for CFM and RPM's but decided to just right up my Guide here..

here is the part list so far:

1. USB Fan with speed control:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWH4FL4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2. USB Extender cable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006HDAAC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3. Metal Mesh Cloth Fence:

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/hardware-cloth-1-4-in-x-24-in-x-5-ft?cm_vc=-10005

4. Fence Plyers:

the Fencing was so thin I was able to cut it with Metal Shears..

I will also need to get some misc. wood srews and bolts w/Fender Washers to bolt it up to the chair..

Now my Chair is also a DIY PC Chair it is made with a regular wheel base brushed aluminum with a Car seat.. I will post some pics of before and after..

Right now I just plan on cutting the Fence mesh to 12"x 7". that is why I needed the fence plyers as I dont have anything to cut the fence mesh with. I am going to bend it like a box shape with L ends to screw to the chair and then bolt the Fan to the Fence mesh with Fender washers..

Now, I am hoping that this fan will move enough air @57CFM which is what the fan states and probally on the High setting.. I figured it I flew for more then an hour most time s as we have respawn enabled so we can end up flying for hours..

I, also had gotten the exteneded USB Cable to plug the Fan into the USB Port on the PC and run it with the Buttkicker wire which I looped over my head as I kept running it over with the chair and it damaged the old wire so I bought new and wired it overhead..

I forgot to mention the ButtKicker Simulation is the Unit I have and it is bolted to the chair..

Well this will be a test to see if the fan can keep the Transducer cool enough or not.. hopefully I will get everything tomorrow as I shipped the fan next day. and the other parts I can get at the Hardware store..

Hey Guys,

Well next day with Amazon is a beautiful thing ;) I just got done assembling the Fan mod and it seems to be working just fine.. Earlier I bent up the Steel mesh and went to the hardware store after dinner to get the Screws and bolts I needed..

I did short my self 4 fender washers for the wood screws but I found some in the garage.. I took some pictures and looking to test it out tonight with a long flight.. I am gonna try for 40-60mins. fly time to see if the fan keeps it cool which I hope it does..

If not I could get a bigger fan haha!!..

I think we have a Winner!! I ran the one engine test for an hour and it kept cool to the touch. I was running the fan on low but I think med will be better over a longer period.

looking to test this ingame next and for an hour run.. But I think it is good enough to keep it cool for long periods when it got warm before now it is cool..
