I've read the faqs, and probably missed the answer, but what's with the talk about a new engine? Does this refer to the graphics engine?

Also why not use the speed trees? according to the faq, the "proprietary" trees give better frame rates at medium, and high altitude, but that sounds counter-intuitive to flying a combat helo sim down low. How do these stock trees perform in BS?

Lastly, I've read that the BS does not have RWR. If that's true, I wonder why BS has a chaff dispenser? I guess it's because there's a chance the BS pilot will see the missile coming? I know I'm missing something.

New engine sometime after Black Shark - and yes, it refers to the graphics engine. As for the Speed Tree, IIRC it did not work very well with the existing engine. You can actually drop framerates instead of increasing them if thigns don't work quite right.

The Black Shark -can- carry chaff, but its typical operating environment does not involve radar guided missiles being fired at it, so the cartridges are flares instead of chaff (basically, the dispenser can accomodate both ... this is why it -can- carry chaff). And you're right, there's no RWR.

about the new engine...

If a new graphics engine will be implemented, does this mean that Black Shark's engine will be upgraded? Or, because it's a stand-alone product, the new engine will come out with new stand-alone sims, and not apply to Black Shark? If so then can we rule out the add-on scenario for Black Shark, ala LOMAC/FC? Or maybe Black Shark gets a few add-on's, but they use the same engine, and the new engine comes with a whole new stand-alone sim? It's dizzying to thing about.

Hmm a propos new engine... Will you do own engine or buy it form somebody? Hmmmm your engine (FC) isn't too good in performance so Iam worried about your next engine, and I think better buy a good and all will be happy.

Alright, let's end this 'standalone' thing right now ....

Black Shark is the FIRST module of DCS. DCS has an upgreadable core (Meaning graphics engine, network engine, AI engine, whatever else you can think of) ... so yes, once the new engine is put in place, you will be able to upgrade Black Shark with it WITHOUT buying a new aircraft module, as is my understanding from the FAQ.

I agree with you, much depends on hardware but it wasn't fair when Lock on was released and there were slideshow cause PCs were too weak to has High settings on Lock on... Maybe now we can play smooth (but still when push Flares performance drops much, flying on big city is not too good with all max settings)... and Iam worried what will happen when that situation will come back again. ;) This is why I prefer checked engines (always we can adapt it to Lock on requirements).
