Dear fellow pilots,

I din't managed to use the ARC-210 radios without the engines running.

I tried with the battery master switch in ON and OVR position without luck.

I tried also with the external electric power (ON) and all 4 external power switches to on, with same results.

Both DDI's and the AMPCD are coming live but not the UFC, what am I doing wrong ?

In some missions we have to ask for startup clearance, but as the ARC-210's are not usable without engines running, it is hard to comply with the startup instruction.

Thank you for your helpful feedback.

From what I recall you cannot use the radios without engines running. This may also be what is true in RW. There was a thread on the ground power and it's not like a civilian plane ground power. As for startup clearance that would all be with your Plane Captain who is the ramp person that's in charge of your plane so it's hand signals.

Dear fellow pilots,

I found the solution in the NATOPS document ref: A1-F18AC-NFM-000 dated 15 September 2008.

at page I-2-37, paragraph 2.5.4.2 External power switches

"Four ground power switches are provided on the ground power panel (figure 2-10) on the left console. Each controls a group of systems and/or instruments (listing is on a placard above the panel) and prevents operation of the systems/instruments on external power, unless the switch is placed to the ON position."

On page I-2-38, Figure 2-10. Ground Power Panel and Placard, it is clearly noted that switch 2 must be on position B to energise the UHF 1 and 2 and the UFC. All three other switches are to be positioned in position A, then you can use the radio's without engines running.

Problem solved

Thank you

I saved this note on using ground power in the hornet.

With external electrical power -

1. Battery - ON

2. EXT PWR switch - RESET - NORMAL (right click)

3. GND PWR switches 1, 2, and 4 - B ON (left click hold for 3 seconds)

4. L® DDI, HI/MPCD, and HUD - ON

5. COMM 1, 2, and ADF - AS DESIRED

6. Warning and caution lights - TEST

7. Inertial navigation system - ENTER WAYPOINTS DESIRED
