I know I'm a little late on it, but still:

Thanks a bunch for the free trial of the Mirage earlier this week!

It's a module I've been quite on the fence about for a long, long time now. It sure has its part in DCS history, I guess, having been the first modern day full fidelity fighter module. It's a pretty plane. Fast as the devil. Gives me a reason to talk with a cheesy fake French accent.

A few things have held me back on buying it for myself pretty long, I guess. There is the thing about the AV-8B. Like many others I have been very frustrated with the really slow progress that module has made for a long, long time. So when looking at the Mirage, I sometimes thought if that's really what I want more of. I haven't gotten all that deep into the systems in those two days. I bet there are a few issues with it that need fixing as well. But then, so do pretty much all other modules. Advantage Mirage: it's been out for quite a while and I think it's overall in a good state, as far as I can tell.

Then, content-wise, I've also been asking myself a lot: what does the Mirage 2000 actually do that the modules I already have don't? The ground attack capabilities are there, but severely limited by design. No problem, just something to know about. Does it outmatch an F-18 as a fighter then? Not really either.

The free trial at last, made me realise something, though:

It isn't 'better' in any single way than any other available bird. But it is different. Just operating some basic instruments it hit me rather hard how a lot of the modules I previously flew are similar. American jet planes. A-10C, AV-8B, F/A-18C... sure not the same at all, but between all those you end up believing that a certain way of doing some things just has to be the 'proper' way. Just an hour in the Mirage showed me that it was designed by very different people. It isn't any less functional, but it all works with a slightly different perspective. Just for that, I guess, I loved trying it out.

P.S.:

Oh, one thing I found a little bit annoying: some rather important keys have no binding at all by default. If the training missions would actually contain the default keybinds that would be more obvious and save a little trouble.
