RedTiger Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I posted something similar at simhq, but I figured I'd post this here too since LOBS is the only 6DOF sim I give a flip about. :D I've played CFS3 and BoBII which have 5DOF and 6DOF respectively. I have a really hard time with the "roll" axis, the one where you tilt your head like your putting your ear on your shoulder. I usually disable this axis since I have to constantly re-center. I can never seem to move my head back to where it looks neutral again! I never have to re-center in Lockon, for example. I just lean forward or back to get the "zero point" for the zoom and then I'm good to go. Is anyone who's tested 6DOF in LOBS having this problem?
GGTharos Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 It tracks fine (no re-centering needed), but I don't like it personally as it's pretty disorienting for me. I find the roll axis to be somewhat useless. Also if your cap or whatever slides a bit because of your head movement, then obviously you need to re-center. CAT_101st Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I just lower the role setting so I only get 15-20 degres of role. I find that is all I need any ways. Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. RedTiger Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 I've tried to edit the settings, but I end up with something so low that its basically off. Everytime I look around or lean in closer some roll is picked up and it makes things disorienting like GG said. I have to contort my neck around to get it back to being neutral again. And I agree, I don't see the point. I have this funny image of a pilot cocking his head to the side with a confused look on his face.
GGTharos Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Well remember, your brain 'rights' the image when you tilt your head. THis is why it is more natural to turn the roll /off/. -sulan- Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Interesting discussion!! I have a trackIR 3 without the vector expansion, and thinking about getting 6dof - Anyone have any idea about the difference between a 6daf Tir3 and Tir4? (Mine is alittle buggy, I have to reconnect it every time I reboot or it won't work, so I was thinking about getting a new one anyway...) Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread!!

No worries friend, threads are always more interesting when the discussion meanders around! :) I think you can turn off the "vector" improvement on TrackIR with the precision key bind. If turning off precision is indicative of TIR3, then TIR4 is a big improvement. With precision switched off its not nearly as responsive and doesn't match the movements of your head as well.
