FoxTwo Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I've got a full 5.1 setup for my PC and I'm getting effects in the center/rear channels but certain sounds that I would expect to come from behind me - engine noise, APU noise, etc... don't. Would really help with the immersion factor if the sounds came from the right speakers. Like I said, SOME effects are clearly going to all speakers... rain I can hear all around me, wind noise, the canopy open/close sound comes from the rear...
panton41 Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I've found 5.1 (and 7.1, whatever) support is terrible across the board from nearly every game and even movies from PC speakers. I've used Logitech 5.1 speakers and found them to be utter crap (rear sounds especially). And I say that from across about a decade of both soundcard and speaker hardware advancements. Dedicated home theater gear I can't vouch for because my house is too small for even a low-end setup and see below. Headphones with surround support are vastly better, and that technology is supported by Windows 10 natively without special hardware. (You still need to pay for the software, but it's a token amount.) My roommates and (ex) wife both prefer headphones for DCS (hours of engine droning is mind numbing if you're not in the game). Windows 10 64-bit | Ryzen 9 3900X 4.00GHz (OC) | Asus Strix B450-F | 64GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3000MHz | two Asus GeForce 1070 Founders Edition (second card used for CUDA only) | two Silicon Power 1TB NVMe in RAID-0 | Samsung 32" 1440p Monitor | two ASUS 23" 1080p monitors | ASUS Mixed Reality VR | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind A-10C Warthog | AV-8B Harrier (N/A) | F/A-18C Hornet | F-16C Viper | F-14B Tomcat | UH-1H Huey | P-51D Mustang | F-86F Saber | Persian Gulf | NTTR
FoxTwo Posted May 30, 2020 Author Posted May 30, 2020 That's fine but still doesn't explain why the audio engine doesn't render sounds in the proper location. In the F18 cockpit the engines and apu should sound like they're behind you, not in front of you.
Dave317 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Sorry to drag this old post up. I always thought my pc sound setup was holding the sound in dcs back until I recent tried a new game. The 5.1 sound is amazing and brings a whole new immersion. Is there any way to fill the rear speakers more within dcs?
