Mic Not Working

For some reason, VA is not getting input from my headphone mic. It recognizes it when I unplug the usb, and when I plug it back in. Other software, such as Windows speech recognition, works fine, so it's not the mic.

 

Recognition setting: Default - Headset microphone (alienware usb dac)

Audio settings: all set to use Windows Default

Running as administrator

Do you have another mic/headset plugged in?

 

That can sometimes "steal" the input device, so try unplugging it if you have one.

No, I don't have any other mic plugged in.

On the VA window is there a red circle and line through the headset image to the right? If so, can you click on this and is mic input then recognised?

Yes, it's there. When I click the assigned button and hold it, "listening resumed". When I let go, "listening suspended".

I do not. On the headset cable, I have volume control and mute. I have verified the mic is not muted. I went into Windows Speech Recognition and read aloud a few sentences to be sure. That worked fine.

Does a faint coloured bar appear across the bottom of the VA window when you use the mic (even with the red circle)?

If you pick a VA profile that is not VAICOM does the mic work? Does any colour appear in the bar at the bottom when you talk into the microphone, regardless of whether the headset is active or not (see attached)

 

Has this previously been working and stopped or are you trying to set up for the first time?

 

 

Looking at your screenshots, the only screen where I can see significant differences from my config is the Recognition tab (screenshot attached for reference) - I don't think these will affect the microphone being detected but may affect speech recognition when you get it working

It's not a new install; I've been running it for a long while now. It was working up until about two weeks ago. I'll try running it without starting the DCS profile and report back.

I tried loading without the DCS profile, same results. I tried a different headset, but same results. I think my next step is to uninstall and reinstall; maybe a corrupted file.

It might be worth checking the VA forums (https://forum.voiceattack.com/smf/index.php) and discord to see if they have any clue

Maybe go to Sound settings in windows and look at the device properties for your mic. There should be a test button, so press that and make some noise to see if it is working.

 

Also, check that the mic in question is set as the default comms device

Yeah, the mic works fine in Windows, and with speech recognition. Just tried uninstalling VA and reinstalling...same thing. But the uninstall did not delete existing settings, either. I'll check that out.

Located data files in User file and deleted. Re-installed the app and all is working fine now. Man, what a pain. Thanks for the input, gents!
