Stearmandriver Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Perhaps a dumb question, but do you guys think I can run the Hornet w/ Supercarrier in a playable state with this system, on an SSD? I don't need eye candy or massive frames, I'm just looking for 20 - 30fps, smooth enough to fly enjoyably, on a 1080p monitor with a homebrew track IR system. For reference, I've been flying FSX with ORBX / REX eye candy and getting fps in the 20s in the VRS Superbug (with 8gb RAM, the 16gb is on its way). Been putting off trying DCS for years until I "finally" do that new, bleeding edge system build... but the Supercarrier release shoved me over the edge. I wanna try it! Thanks...
EightyDuce Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 You're at just about the bare minimum required to run the game. If you play on "low" settings on not too heavily populated servers you may be able to squeeze out 20-30 frames. Sorry that i can't be of more help than that. Not to sound like a snob, but I personally don't consider anything under 60fps to be "playable" just from long term exposure to 90+ FPs. But if you're used to lower frames and aren't bothered by it, I think you could get some good stick time in there until you upgrade, especially if playing single player and not loading up the deck of the carrier with a lot of static aircraft. Wali763 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) I started DCS (or better gave it a try) on a mobile i5-6200U and a 940MX. Even going down to lowest resolution (720p?) and settings I had ususally about 15fps. Was unplayable, so I bought a second hand i5-3570 and a RX570 with 4GB VRam. On 1080p that was with medium settings quite ok, 25-40fps as I remember. I dont know what Cpu you have at 3,2Ghz, but it could be a close call. My guess would be that its too slow, especially since more and more things have been added to DCS. But since basic DCS is free, there is no risk testing it. Edited June 5, 2020 by Wali763
schroedi Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Minimum requirement is a GTX 760, so your GFX is below that.
Stearmandriver Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 Minimum requirement is a GTX 760, so your GFX is below that. I did notice that, and yet I've found forum posts referencing people using that card or even playing on a laptop, so I figure there's hope lol. Yeah, I'll just have to try it and see. I'm running an old 6 core AMD chip that is 2.7ghz stock, got it overclocked to a little over 3.2ghz.
Exorcet Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 DCS is a free download, if the question is "can I run it", trying it is the best first step. That said, the F-18 is more demanding than the free planes so expect a drop in performance compared to what the Su-25 or TF-51 show. Yeah, thanks, I thought that might be the case. I got as far as installing DCS and quickly trying it before heading out to work... was seeing around 50fps in the SU-25. So, maybe there's hope.
