red external lights are large blurry balls

just as the title suggests.

 

flying FA18, supercarrier at night. on short approach and all you see is several red light sources on the deck that are large, round and blurry. obscuring the deck until short final.

 

this also seems to apply to aircraft red position lights. i believe these lights use to be much more focused in previous versions

 

 

any ideas?
