Hogges Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 (edited) Hi, Having flown some fantastic sessions in the Viggen lately, I have come across a rather annoying flicker or shimmer in the cockpit. More precisely in the white parts and texts of the instrument panel. Now, I am aware that the current forms of anti-aliasing available to us in DCS are somewhat limited and that it is nearly impossible to avoid a bit of flickering and shimmering but this is more than I have seen previously with the Viggen in older versions of DCS and it is also not present nearly like this in any other aircraft I own. I am running the latest stable version 2.5.6.49798 at 3440 x 1440 with MSAA at 2X and anisotropic filtering at 16x plus some additional settings in the Nvidia Control Panel (MFAA, 2X Transparency Supersample at 2X enhanced application AA and Clamp Texture Filtering). This generally gives me great visuals with almost no flicker or shimmering present with good performance. Yet, the Viggen seems to be the exception for me at the moment. I have also tried it with different AA settings but the flicker is always there and happens with both TrackIr and mouse controlled head movement. In order to help you guys understand this issue better I have recorded and uploaded a short video: https://streamable.com/cy4jm1 Especially looking at the white text left and right of the panel and the table in front of the stick it is, in my opinion, quite obvious. (Edit: Sadly, the video quality in full-screen isn't that great. It is however very clear in the normal player) It would be fantastic to get some input if this issue can be replicated by anyone else or indeed Heatblur themselves. It is sadly quite distracting for me and I would be over the moon if this could be fixed or at least mitigated. Since it has only been this strong for me with the latest update, it might have to do something with the lighting changes perhaps? That however is clearly speculation on my part. Thank you in advance for your input and I am always happy to give more information! Edited June 15, 2020 by Hogges
Hogges Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Hello again, In order to bring my point across as well as I possibly can, I wanted to provide some more input on this issue. I have attached a track and uploaded another video. This time at Youtube, where hopefully the quality will be better. It is sadly quite nauseating and almost makes the Viggen unflyable for me so I am really hoping for some feedback on whether this can be reproduced. I have tried all possible shadow and AA settings and have re-installed the module to no avail. The issue persists. I have also tried all other aircraft I own and can confirm again that they do not have the same issue apart from some normal shimmer induced by the head movement. Again, many thanks in advance for your feedback!Viggen_Cockpit_Flicker.trk
RagnarDa Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 What happens if you change the resolution? DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
Hogges Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 Thank you for the input! Tried it at 1080p and 1440p and it still happens. 3440x1440 is the native resolution of my monitor.
RagnarDa Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I would try either trying different settings and see if it goes away, or PM our texture artist ensamvarg to see if the has any ideas. I would also suggest asking in the general DCS section since even though it happens in the Viggen we don’t make the graphics engine and only the model and it might be something with how the cockpit is drawed in the engine.
