ED Team Groove Posted March 2, 2008 ED Team Posted March 2, 2008 XP will recognize 3 GB afaik. If you want to play Supreme Commander, go for 4 or 8 GB of Ram and Vista. Otherwise 2 GB will suffice for quite some time. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
RvETito Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 If you gonna make CFD simulations with Fluent make sure you have 2GB only for it. Oh man... Disclaimer: Disregard the above paragraph. littlejohn1959 Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 I've got 4GB here on a Gigabyte P35 mobo as well, and both Vista and XP 32 recognize 3.5GB. It mainly depends on the amount of memory of your video card, i.e. my 7950GT has 512MB so Windows will reserve enough address space for the vidcard and hence can only use 3.5GB RAM at max. But afaik it also depends on your motherboard, some older boards will only give you 3GB. Anyway, I'd go for 4GB because of the extremely low RAM prices. And like Groove said, think about Vista 64, more and more people start to use it and there seem to be less problem with drivers and software than before. And the CPU is a very good choice! sounds great . i think i will get the 4 gigs . as you stated , prices are down . i have the 8800 gt in mind . but if the 8800 gts drops in price , i may go that route . heres is the gpu and memory i was considering . thanks for your imput . cheers . http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27704 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24641 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
