I’ve been out of the loop for awhile with flight simming and am getting back into it. I’m checking out the current flight gear. About 4 years or so ago I purchased an all metal gunfighter pro with an extension and it just wound up sitting in my closet in a box. A beautiful piece of equipment period. Anyway I had some personal issues that just kept me from my hobbies for awhile. I’ve noticed that Vkb now has more iitems in stock which is nice but I can’t find any of the metal grips for sale. Did they stop building them? I figure that is the case. Man I hope not. It’s an awesome looking/feeling grip.

No, VKB don't make grips in metal, they say that are not advantage in this, but some disadvantage (weight, grip CG), only in plastic.

If you want metal grip get Thrustmaster F-16 or F-18 grip only, for what VKB has de needed electronic and mechanic adapter (need fit inside grip) and use in Gunfighter base.

I’ll check, I am almost certain I got one a long time ago when they first came out. I literally bought some of the first ones that came out. Maybe I’m losing my mind or something:)!!Anyway I’ll check and let you guys know. I’ll take some pics.

With that being said I’m not saying metal is better. I like the light weight in a center stick with an extension. Heck, the real F-18 stick is made out of some kind of resin. Definitely not metal.

Why people so want meta all is nothing more than marketing idea, based to people idea that as metal doesn't bend as much as some plastics, melt in some heat like metals, then it must be better.

But there are so many different plastics that some are sturdier than some metals even. But without going to pure science.... It doesn't matter what kind plastic/metal differences there really is.

We talk about a joystick grip. That is given specific forces at given temperature, is stressed under specific kind wear and tear. And there are A LOT of plastics that are superior to metal when it comes to such a designs and target usage.

Some individual parts are better to be made from metal, like MCG brake lever or flip up/down triggers. But you don't really need anything metal for the grip itself for handling. But again stress points for the mechanical joints where these high force parts connects to plastic needs reinforcement.

Now that said, comparing pedals to joystick grip is another differences, as people put easily more force even accidentally without noticing it, and forces are high.

Why plastics gets bad name, is because there are business models and designs that use wrong material for the purpose because price and simple greed in production. And so on market gets filled with products that are nothing more than crap.

There are big difference in good design and engineering, compared to bad design and engineering. And the difference is simply that who really makes decision that what is the wanted price and product rotation.

One could bet that example GF + MCG PRO could have been pushed down to 100 € price range, but who wants something like X45 or TM16.000 etc?

I don't...

There are some design choices I would have changed in MCG PRO, but they likely would have increased production costs by 5-10 € at max, but little more about assembly line than anything else.

Maybe I’m losing my mind or something:).

Are pictres in these forums of VKB KG-12B (Bf 109/Fw 190...) grip made in metal, but just a prototype, that don't reach production and was not sold for consumers.

And a picture of SCG (Space Combat Grip Kosmosima) made in metal, but for a professional sim contract (military I guess), too no sold for consumers, maybe someone, friendly of the right VKB guy get one, but just one.

Perhaps you are remembering one of this pictures... if not, change your medicines. :D

Well I was absolutely wrong. I think I somehow got the early kg12 mixed up as a metal grip. Regardless, my MK1 and KG12 are both plastic which is fine with me. I really think the lighter weight grips are better for center mount cockpit style setups. At least for me. I will start my medication again.
