Grimes Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Shepski pointed out in the infantry AI thread about triggers and AI infantry and such. Is the trigger system robust enough to build a kind of dynamic mission along the lines of what they did with Arma Evolution and domination, then to a lesser extent the Sahrani LifeRPG. Each of those have an RPG element where you can gain ranks and access to better weaponry but they also have a dynamic missions. Evolution centers around clearing various towns of enemy forces by destroying a comm tower and killing all inside a given radius of the town. You can join squads and do side missions such as CSAR and destroying convoys for extra points. Aside from blowing stuff up, passing into a specific location, and time triggers, will we be able to directly interact with a trigger? Like something in the radio menu. You select a mission and you and your datalinked buddies are given a fresh set of waypoints directing you to the mission area, when its accomplished you can select another one, and get new waypoints. I guess the point of this is to help sustain the longevity of multiplayer. Since its strong point will be co-op, it just makes sense to be able to make a mission that runs for several hours and is dynamic enough to offer a difference in experience everytime. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. EvilBivol-1 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 We plan on releasing a description of the ME once everything is locked in. We will then describe in detail and provide screenshots of the main features, including the trigger system. For now, what I will say is that the current trigger system, like the rest of the ME, forms a basic foundation that will be expanded as DCS develops. We currently have ten possible trigger rules (like 'unit in zone') and 6 triggered actions (like 'play audio file') to choose from. I'm personally not familiar with other products' trigger systems, but all the big ones have been tried and tested by ED. They've got a long list of trigger functions they would like to implement, not to mention the many ideas pitched in by the testers. What is most important today, more so than what individual triggers are in, is that new and robust code is in place, allowing ED to work it continuously. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy.
