Hi all,

I wonder if anyone else found this probably bug.

I see 2 rec triangles on FCR coming from the MIDS/Datalink and I read the currend altitude, then I proceed pointing my FCR in TWS mode, I put the antenna set on right altitude span but I cannot read the contacts.

Therefore I try to push TMS-right and the cursor locks on a red triangle, with another TMS-right the red triangle become bugged but still no radar contacts are shown.

I launch 120c and it splashes.

Is this correct behaviour or, as I think, those contacts should become white square and then white square bugged and then shoot the missile...?

Thanks :-)

With datalink on, if your FCR acquires the contact you can actually see a white dot in the middle of the triangle just like how you will see a white dot when you do not have datalink on. If your FCR was unable to acquire the target the triangle will be hollow because that is datalink telling you where it is instead of your radar, and you cannot lock the target.

If you lock your target in RWS mode the triangle will become a solid red triangle with a small red circle around it (the white dot will disappear because now it's a solid red triangle, not hollow anymore), as in TWS mode, you need to "mark" the target first using TMS up (cursor on target) or TMS right (commands radar to mark all correlated contacts), and the contact becomes a solid red triangle (still not bugged because no small red circle around it). Then you can bug the marked targets using TMS up (cursor on target) or TMS right (bug the cloestest marked target, and you can switch bugged targets using TMS right). Bugged targets in TWS is the same as they are in RWS, solid red triangle with circle around it.

I suggest you read page 137-140 of the manual. It should explain this better than me.

WITHOUT datalink, yes the contacts should be white squares.

Also, if your target is bugged, which means you can fire missiles to engage it, your hud or JHMCS should show a square around it, just like any NATO aircraft, regardless the datalink is on or not.

thanks for the answer,

I read the chuck's guide regarding the multiple launch of aim120 and there was the explanation of the white squares that i was looking for.

I missed the part of the datalink feeding contacts that you explained to me very clearly.

So thank you, now I understand :-)

I'll check the manual as you suggested for more in depth info.

see ya.

p.s.

the hud shows exactly the square as you said and i was able to shoot and splash indeed, my doubt was about red triangles vs white squeares ;-)
