Biga42 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Although the moving tgt is locked in MFCD, it is not locking correct in the MAV Flir, also I get no launch cue. And its impossible to move the cursor to lock the target in the mav flir screen. If I change TGP to the right DDI it works.
squid509 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 what do you mean by impossible to more the cursor? you need to hold down the TDS Depress to slew the mav seeker OR go to the special tab and uncheck the Realistic TDC Slew what that box unchecked you can slew the mav with out holding down TDC depress
Biga42 Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 @squid509 I know that! I will save a track and post here!
Harker Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 PTRK does not update the AG designation as it moves. Use TDC Depress to update it (it'll also create the Offset cursor, but you can leave that in the middle of the display). So you MAVF looks at the point of the previous designation. Also, you cannot slew the MAVF seeker if there exists an AG designation, it's slaved to it. You have to undesignate if you want to slew it manually. That makes it completely useless - what is the point of having the TGP watching a target move around if I can not do anything with that? If I PTRK a stationary object (i.e. building, whatever) it does not matter much as the AG designation and the PTRK reticle coincidence. But how would I, if not drop an LGB onto a insurgent scooter, but lase it for a MAVE?

But how would I, if not drop an LGB onto a insurgent scooter, but lase it for a MAVE? For the first point, it's just how the designation system in the F-18 + LiTENING II works. The concept of SPI does not exist in the F-18, so the designation is not slaved to a sensor LOS at all times, it requires positive action from the pilot in certain cases. You can update the designation with TDC Depress at any time, to adjust your AUTO release point calculation. Sure, it can be a PITA sometimes, but it works. Blame Boeing for designing it this way, I guess. As for the second point, the designation does not need to be updated to lase a moving target. The laser still illuminates the tracked PTRK target, no matter if it's designated or not. You only need the designation to be correct at the moment of weapon release, for release calculations. After that, both the LMav and an LGB will home in on the laser. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. Biga42 Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 @Harker you got the point! My doubt is, I do update TDC Depress in TGP SOI or in MAV SOI to update the target in the Maverick seeker? Thanks!

TDC Depress with the TPOD. If the MAV/MAVF is uncaged and slaved to the AG designation, it'll snap to the new AG designation by itself. The only thing you might need to do is to manually uncage the missile seeker, but making the MAV SOI and pressing the Cage/Uncage button. After that, switch to the TPOD and do everything from there.
