I tried running as administrator. Same result.

I'll try this weekend on my home "VR" computer and see if it works there

I'll wager it's because your IT department will have given you limited user rights on your laptop. I've seen that myself before on works laptops and it can be a pain. But hey ho, we tried :)

Should work fine on your own PC though.

PS. Pretty weird that you can run DCS and not a simple TTS program...

Not the first thing I'm surprised about when it comes to our IT department :P

Anyways.. Just tried on my home pc and it works flawlessly

Great sound! Love the radio crackle.

One more thing though. I see that there's only one male voice available (David) and two female. Is that correct?

In my Windows TTS configuration screen, I can also select blokes called George and Mark

I tried to get the other listed voices to be available to third party TTS programs but after searching around it seems that Microsoft only allows the default 3 to be used.

The rest are apparently system locked and require a registry hack to unlock - which may or may not still work. I decided to leave it at that point.

Edit: just found this https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40406719/windows-10-tts-voices-not-showing-up

Basically it says:

["David and Zira are SAPI voices; the language packs install WinRT voices.

The SAPI APIs and voices are legacy APIs, and are not being further developed; all new voices and effort are going into the WinRT APIs and voices.

If you want to use the language pack voices, you'll need to move your application over to WinRT and use the WinRT APIs."]

So, this means we can only use the three (1 male) voices listed in my screenshot? (that's too bad :()

There is numerous free TTS voices usualy lower quality and you can buy better ones from 3rd party companies. Just goggle for TTS voices.

Scroll down https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-download-text-to-speech-languages-for-windows-10-d5a6b612-b3ae-423f-afa5-4f6caf1ec5d3

I tried this (scrolled down and followed the steps) and it installs something called "espeak". Unfortuantely once I had this installed, your "Radio message maker" stopped working (wouldn't startup). I uninstalled espeak and Radio message maker worked again (still only 1 male voice though :()

If you're looking for a free text-to-speech converter, tools like TTSReader, Natural Readers (free tier), or Google Text-to-Speech are decent starting points. But if you’re looking for high-quality, realistic voices and easy download options, I’d highly recommend checking out AudioModify.
