Hi all,

Just wanted to share my fondness of the (currently) sole single mission available in the Syria map. I've always liked missions like these - plausible rotor recovery supported by fixed wing - and so I bring a personal bias to this appreciation but wanted to share it nonetheless. I also spent part of 2015 in Iraq, and the Russians were always a bit of a mystery to us, so it's nice to explore this unknown side of a personal experience I've had.

It's a wonderfully uncomplicated mission (for some DCS efforts) that forces you to focus on proper flying, procedure and coordination, and also brings in a healthy dose of immersion with the fact missions like these are true world. Below is a link to a short and fascinating documentary (*cough* propaganda) of the Russian's rotary wing efforts in Syria:

Happy flying all.

Flying the Mi-8 can be such a nice break sometimes. Even though both my hands and feet are busy while flying, I find it relaxing focusing solely on flying.

I just ran it. I was listening to some music in the background so from my perspective it was a nice relaxing flight out and back. I fired the gun pods for entertainment (mostly to see if I could remember to do it), and I think I heard the door gunners fire a couple times. Other than that, a pretty uneventful mission as Wizz alluded.

So I read through the debriefing window and am completely surprised to see there was a total war going on behind me. Door gunners letting it rip on troops, troops letting it rip on my helo. APC's firing at me. Mi-24's firing at APC's, Tanks, AAA, absolute madness... One of them even got shot down (I could have picked them up too! :(), and then had a shootout with more troops on the ground? Also I got to interact with the "Airborne Troops" command, and was surprised how well that worked. I erroneously programmed the DISS and so had to use the kneeborad map to RTB. Mission success.

I don't know if that was skill, luck, or total oblivion/ lack of SA on my part. But I took no hits and saw no action out the cockpit windows.:music_whistling:

Yeah I say give it a try if you haven't yet. It's quite fun.
