Hi,

I'll be visiting Paris on June 21st thru 26th so if any of you guys live there we could meet. Except classic sightseeing (museums, galleries, Eiffel etc.) can anyone suggest some aviation museums with static Mirages and related things to make most of my visit.

Thanks guys!

Bump, Guess noone from Paris?!

Hi

You have the museum "Le Bourget" (see here : http://www.mae.org/index.php?id=36), it's a bit far away from the center of Paris and most of the displays are civilian planes / old french aircraft (no Mirage 2000 or recent fighters), but it's alway nice to spend some time there :)

You should come next year : there will be the big Airshow (every 2 years, this year should be in Farnborough) :)

Cheers :)

Hi Vekkinho,

Sorry i've just come across your post. I don't come often in this part of the forum.

I don't know if there's an aviation museum in Paris itself. However, close to the surburbs, there's the Bourget museum of flight which is held the Bourget airshow every two years (not this year however).

I don't know if you read French, but I couldn't find an English version of the museum website : http://www.mae.org/

The museum is at the Bourget airport, not far from Paris. You can easily go there by train (RER B, station "Le Bourget"), by the underground (line 7, station "La Coureneuve - Place du 8 mai 1945") and then you'll have to take the bus or walk a bit. Or you can still go by car if you rent one.

There are various static aircrafts, including a Mirage IV (retired a few years ago). But this museum as reading the website, the museum is a lot focused on aviation history.

Here's what you can always see at the museum : http://www.mae.org/index.php?id=15

The museum is open from 10am to 6pm. Closed on Mondays.

Uderage children must be with an adult. No pets except guide dogs for blind guys.

Important : the museum is free from January to end of June (lucky you). However, you have to pay 5€ to see (walk through?) the 747 and the Concorde. Same for a planetarium show. Same for audio guide (like headphones I guess, available in French, English and German).

Hope it helps

OK guys I appreciate your replies. It helps a lot!

I know of Le Bourget, I was there on business in 2005 with my company Atlas Air, we were meeting some guys from Snecma and NPO Saturn to negotiate a purchase of SaM146 engine that was built in cooperation of these two.

I'll be coming again this year but main reason of my visit is Interdepartmental exercise on nuclear safety to be held on Wednesday 25th of June in SACLE center. I don't know how much time it will take but like I said in the first post I hope for some free time for some French rock n' roll with a bottle of Cote d'Or wine on my table!

Thanks guys!
