Hey all.

I found a good deal on an X56 but am having some issues. The drivers seem to install but showed the device not connected even when they were via usb. Additionally, the computer chimes when they are plugged in and identifies them. They seem to show up, but certain applications dont seem to see them. And a few of the profile apps that came with the driver download (Mad Catz and Profiler) will not load. Still, the computer does show them and the X56 Logitech app does show them. So how do I set up the profile? I have included a screenshot so you can see. How does everyone setup a profile for F/A-18C?

Thanks!

Are you sure you downloaded the drivers for the Logitech X56? X55 and prior profiles aren't compatible and won't be seen/understood by the X56. I ask because you have a MadCatz profile which didn't come in the drivers I downloaded, and MadCatz was done with the HOTAS system with the X55. Also in the screen shot you posted, you are not in the right place for setting up a profile. Click the middle button "programming" that is where you set up profiles. Where you are in the software in your screenshot is where you set up lighting and such.

Thanks Bones. I didnt realize you had to setup a profile. As you can see I know nothing about what I am doing. I just figured the programming tab showed you what buttons you were pushing. The inputs do work there. How the heck do I setup a profile (programming) and what is it I am doing exactly?

Hi there

Don't know about the set up issues with the X-56, but you can download a X-56 profile from the DCS site, from the user file section if you search the profile section.

My own profile pretty much follows the actual HOTAS set up in the F/A-18C!

All you do is place the file in I think it’s your Users\Public\Documents\Logitech\X-56 or for the older software Users\Public\Documents\SmartTechnology Profiles.

Maybe try the Logitech drivers and software, don’t know if they work with the earlier model though?

I would recommend uninstalling the drivers and clearing all the old entries in the registry, the re-installing the drivers, you maybe able to get help online or search the input and output section in this forum!

Here is a link to the manual

Hope this helps

PS Sorry should have took a closer look at the screen shot, you are on the Logitech software, it’s late and I’m tired!

So if you download a profile, when you are in the software go to programming. Click the open folder icon. It will show you the directory where it is looking for profiles. Cuty and paste your profile into there. Then select and open it.

To be sure that the profile is in your HOTAS, click the little target icon on the upper right. It will download it to the HOTAS. YOu can turn off the software now unless you want to see what each button does in the software.

If you are making your own profile, that is a bit more complicated. Press the button you want to program to get the software to jump to it. CLick in the field below the selected button field and type your keystroke. When done, click the check mark. DO this until you have programmed everything and hit the target icon to download it. I hit it often even when I'm not done so that it's updated and so that if I needed to move the command to another button, it's already listed and I can just select it in the new button position without having to retype it.

Save the profile when you're done and you ready to go.

You might have to make a button an "advanced command" which is like a macro but with added nuances such as button press time. That is more complicated and hard to explain here but the manual might be able to tell you more.

Thanks all. I got the drivers working. The throttles and stick seem to be working now in DCS. I downloaded profiles from the Youtube Channel Grim Reapers. and that seems to be a good start. I will likely customize further from there once I understand the simulator a bit better. Anyone care to provide their $0.02 on what they put on their buttons and switches?

Using his profile though did leave me with one issue. When I first got the HOTAS running I noticed a knob on the stick that moved the cockpit camera with your thumb. It is up on the far left top of the control stick. I rather liked that. But the new profile changed that. I went and binded that knob back to cockpit view but now it just shifts from one cockpit view to the next and doesnt shift the view as if im turning my head slowly. (And yes, I chose "slow" for the binding hahaha) Any thoughts on this?

Overall the game is very deep. I have a feeling it is going to be a while before I really start to feel comfortable with it. Hell, just taking off in the P-51D I find myself losing control in flight easily.
