Found the reason, the stick does not appear to have a button.

But could it be that simple?

The D-40 stick for a reference, though it might be missing some texture by the looks of it.

Yes, it's that simple indeed. Electric method of external payload release (doesn't matter if bombs or tanks) was introduced somewhere during D-30 production. Our "early" variant works like all preceeding Thunderbolt versions, i.e. ordnance was dropped only mechanically by pulling front T-shaped handles on the left panel.

 

So the more important question is, can these be mapped to some keys/buttons in DCS, or not yet? Can't check it at the moment.

i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

It seems that Bomb Release keybinding does not work for D-30 Early, hence my confusion.

Problem soled by assigning buttons for left and right Jettison handles, which currently are not Drop Bomb key bind. Thanks for clarifying that electric vs manual thingy.
