Aernov Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 When entering LAR with GBU-38 in TOO mode (haven't tested other JDAMs and target acquisition methods, but I would assume it's the same), accuracy readout (or LAR percentage, as it is called in Chuck's guide) begins to count towards 100 and reaches that at about 9 o'clock position of HUD range ring, which seems pretty normal. Then the percentage goes down and gets to zero at 6 o'clock range indicator position, which, I would assume, should be optimal release range. And then it goes back to 100 at near 3 o'clock position, very close to minimal release range. I'm not sure if first 100 readout is correct or too early, but zero in the middle of LAR and 100 at the edge of minimal range seems wrong. I have reported the same behavior earlier, but the issue (?) remains. Attached are three screenshots with described "stages" of LAR percentage readout. Track file is too large for the forum to upload (9,5 mb), but it is not necessary, this behaviour is consistent.
ChickenSim Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 There's a lot not quite right with the LARs, NIRDs, and percentages right now, and very little documentation for how they are intended (by Razbam) to work, but: 1. LARs are supposed to be depicted as dynamic whiskers/staples on the EHSD, not as static circles/donuts that are only valid if directly nose-on and at a certain speed? 2. NIRD should be normalized to a triangle at 6 o'clock being Rmax (or Rcpa) and a triangle somewhere between 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock being Rmin (like every other weapon that uses a NIRD). 3. LAR percentage isn't a probability of hit or accuracy readout at all, it is supposed to tell you at a glance how far you've penetrated into the LAR, with 0 being the edges and 100 (99) being the center. There should only be one of these countup/countdown sequences. 4. NIRD and LAR penetration readouts should only be valid for the current priority target (the one immediately right of the N/T in the queue). Consider the current implementation fairly WIP until it is properly documented by Baltic. "It is also true that we parted ways with Chicken after some disagreements."
RAZBAM_ELMO Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Improved LAR percentage HUD and EHSD behaviour and symbology will be improved at a later date. Marking as FUTURE IMPLEMENTATION and moving to RESOLVED. Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass. — Dave 'Preacher' Pace, USN.
