Logic of the Sensors

I am struggling with logic of the Sensors Switch. In the A10 is quite Simple to navigate the MPCD, but in the Harrier is something erratic...or I am not understand it at all. Does anyone have a scheme of how to use the sensor switch in DMT /TPOD/ Mavericks?

It is unique kind as Harrier AV-8B N/A has so many things added to it as "afterthough". And it is more of a specific layout how to use it so that it SSS (Sensor Select Switch) makes sense.

 

I think the best explanation comes from Red Kite in youtube.

There is still some bugs that can cause you suddenly jump from TPOD to DMT or your target point will suddenly just jump somewhere else.

 

You need to take that in consideration when learning the logic how those sensors are used in Harrier.

 

I recommend going each weapon/sensor one by one through as mixing them at early phase can cause headache.

There is a handy table in the POCKET GUIDE pp104-105 that summarized the SSS actions. I admit I didn't really understand this table until I actually saw the functions used in the aircraft, then it made "SENS(or)" :)

I believe that this table was not really accurate in terms of the TPOD until the recent update to the GEN4, especially the double click of SS Down.

I'm also struggling to get my head round the logic of the sensors and the TDC. Coming off the Hornet and F-16 learning curve, where I map SSS and TDC to two POV hats on the joystick, the AV-8b introduces 'forward' and 'aft' where others refer to 'up' and 'down', but the Harrier also has a sss and TDC 'down' designation - is this in fact same as the Hornet & Vipers Sensor select button or tdc designate button?

A further complication is all the video tutorials Ive watched have some conflicting info or differnt key options since they go back 3 or 4 yrs and theres been a few changes along the way, I dont really know which info is now current or relevant. Grim Reapers are usually pretty good in this as they will mark a video as outdated when something changes. The links above to RedKites videos - are that all still relevant and up-to-date?

YES.. FORWARD/AFT is the direction of the hat, "UP, DOWN" SSS DOWN (ACTION) is like SSS ACTION (PRESS) in the F/A-18 that is used for IFF interrogation.

Thanks - this is the best explanation I have seen on the current system, even though he also confuses DOWN with AFT !
