ED Team Popular Post Graphics Posted January 8, 2021 ED Team Popular Post Share Posted January 8, 2021 08 January 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, 2020 was a tough year for most and a challenging one for Eagle Dynamics too. Despite COVID-19, we managed to release several products and core improvements which we hope were up to your expectations. We also changed our Open Beta release cycle and focused more on quality and less on feature delivery. For this we have you to thank, our faithful community. We really count and value your feedback, without your trust and patience, we would never be able to achieve the level of quality and enjoyment that you deserve. Thank you and do keep it up please! The beginning of the year seems to be posing many of the same challenges, but the team is well organised and we believe that we have a solid roadmap for 2021 that will see the addition of new modules and improvements to the core-DCS program. Please do take a look at our plan below but kindly understand that the dates are our best estimates as of writing this letter and may move around a bit as time goes by. In the first quarter of 2021, we will migrate to DCS World version 2.7. While it was planned to release 2.6 in the very beginning of the year, so many additional changes are in the works that we have decided to move directly to 2.7. But prior to this move, we will have one remaining update to version 2.5 that will include many improvements to DCS: F/A-18C Hornet. As the world moves into more apparent uncertainty, we would like to thank you again for staying by our side in 2020 and for helping us to more ‘sunlit uplands’ as Churchill so beautifully said. May 2021 be a good year for you and your families, a year full of love, success and health. Onwards and Upwards! Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team DCS World 2021 Roadmap Before we discuss the new projects, let’s first touch on the support of existing products in 2021: DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Finalising this fantastic module is one of our top-priorities and our goal is to have the project out of Early Access by the end of the 1st quarter. In January, we will be adding new functions for expendable countermeasures, Electronic Attack (EA), radar jamming effects, SEA and Ground Moving Target (GMT) radar modes, designated target sharing (TXDSG), the FUEL page BIT, BDU-45 and BDU-45B practice bombs. Following these items, principal items remaining include: the ATFLIR targeting pod and the AGM-88C HARM Pre-Briefed (PB) mode, AGM-84K SLAM-ER, coupled (CPL) autopilot modes. Once out of early access, Hornet support will continue with the addition of the AIM-7P, ACLS mode, WIDE ACM mode, and the Data Transfer Cartridge functions. Thereafter, we will be maintaining and polishing this module on an ongoing basis. DCS: F-16C Viper Once the Hornet is out of early access, some of the developers will be allocated to the Viper team in order to enhance their capabilities. Based on customer feedback, their highest priorities includes completing air-to-air radar modes and functions, additional AGM-88C HARM modes, GPS/INS-guided weapons, expanded defensive systems, air-to-surface radar modes, mark points, additional ICP and MFD options, new weapon delivery modes, and more. DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer The Hawg is already nearly complete, but we do plan to deliver some additional features in 2021 that include the ARC-210 radio, updates to the Tactical Awareness Display (TAD), changes to optically guided Maverick slewing, and the long version of the AN/ALQ-184 ECM pod. DCS: Supercarrier Most of our effort on the Supercarrier has been focused on creating the 3D environments for the Ready Room, Air Boss Station (PriFly), and the hangar deck. Other tasks for 2021 include plane directors to marshal aircraft to the catapults and off the landing area, the “burble”, deck crew light wands for night operations, unique radio channels for different controllers, and manual LSO control. New Aircraft DCS World DCS: Mosquito FB MK.VI Our first new product of 2021 will be the impressive Mosquito. This will be our first multi-engine, multi-crew World War II aircraft for DCS World, and it will mark an important capability for future projects. The Mosquito is planned to be released into early access by the end of the 1st quarter of 2021. DCS: Mi-24P Named the Hind by NATO, this Russian attack helicopter is a deadly player on the battlefield with an array of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, twin-barrel 30mm cannons, unguided rockets, and more. Featuring cooperative multiplayer in the front and back seat, the product will offer an even higher level of detail and accuracy than our Mi-8MTV2. With the ability to also act as a troop and cargo transport, the Mi-24P will add an all-new dimension to attack helicopter operations in DCS World. The Mi-24P is planned for release in the 2nd quarter of 2021. DCS: AH-64D Perhaps our biggest new aircraft project for 2021, the AH-64D will be the most accurate and detailed simulation of this iconic American attack helicopter. Like the Mi-24P, it will feature front- and back-seat operations in single player and multiplayer. Based on a 2002 Block II version, the AH-64D will be armed with Hellfire anti-tank guided missiles, unguided rockets, and a head-tracking 30mm cannon. The early access AH-64D is planned for release in the 3rd quarter of 2021 and will be available for pre-sales as of February 2021 with a 30% discount. Note: Due to new Russian Federation laws pertaining to the gathering of information of Russian military equipment, we have had to reconsider our plans to add new systems to the Ka-50. We continue to update the cockpit, as well as a highly detailed updated external model. M.A.C Modern Air Combat (MAC) Despite the lack of updates on this project, it is still very much alive and we are making continued progress. Much of the work remains on the new gameplay modes, updating the 3D models and cockpits for the MAC aircraft, creating a new input manager “wizard”, and continued work on a new Graphical User Interface. We are shooting for 3rd quarter 2021 release, but latest Q4 2021. Maps For our maps, we will continue to address bugs and map improvements to the Persian Gulf, Caucasus, and Nevada maps. Most of our map work though is focused on The Channel map and the upcoming, free Mariana Islands map. DCS: The Channel We continue to expand this map with additional airfields, including the famous Biggin Hill RAF and Eastchurch airfields in England, two new advanced landing group airstrips, and numerous new landmarks. We plan to release the final version of the Channel map in the 1st quarter of 2021. DCS: Mariana Islands Slated to release in the 2nd quarter 2021, this map will first be a modern-day depiction, and it will include Andersen AFB and several other airfields along the island chain. Combined with the Chinese Assets Pack, we see interesting single player and multiplayer possibilities. This is still planned as a free map, and it will later serve as the foundation for our first World War II Pacific Theater map. New Clouds Volumetric The wait is almost over, and the new clouds for DCS World will be introduced in the 1st quarter of 2021. In addition to being visually stunning, the new clouds will block visual and optical sensor line of sight and be synchronized online. We will initially release the new cloud system with an array of weather presets that will cater to most mission building scenarios. Later in the year, we will update the Weather Tool in the Mission Editor that will allow finer control of the clouds with a dynamic weather system based on a more advanced meteorological engine. Some of the new / improved visual effects in development for 2021 includes: Improved helicopter rotor wash over water and ground. Missile flame and smoke. Ground unit dust clouds. Trans-sonic shock cones. Fuel explosions. Weapon water splash. Further explosion improvements. Smoke grenades. We hope to have many of these available in stages throughout the year. Dynamic Campaign This massive task has been underway for over two years, and the progress has been exciting. The campaign is built around a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) foundation that factors resources, zones of control, logistics, available forces, and a strategic decision-making system. While we believe internal testing will continue in the 1st quarter of 2021, it is too early to estimate a release date. However, external Beta testing is planned hopefully in Q2/Q3 2021. Vulkan API and Multi-threading With the integration of these libraries, DCS will benefit from improved performance throughout, including in virtual reality. This has been a substantial task to develop and integrate into our codebase, but we are nearing the end of this journey, and expect it to be available in the 3rd quarter of this year. Damage Modelling Progress In the end of 2020, the new damage model system for our World War II aircraft was released. Although some tuning remains, most of our work on this front in 2021 will focus on bringing the technology to our modern aircraft like F/A-18C Hornet, F-16C Viper, and A-10C II Tank Killer. This is an ongoing process which we hope to deliver in stages during the latter half of 2021. Air Traffic Control (ATC) Over the past year, our primary ATC focus has been on the Supercarrier. Now that the Supercarrier ATC system is nearing completion, we will next move on to airfield ATC radio communications. Given the scope of DCS World, this is not a simple task, and it will require three separate ATC systems: Western Modern Day, Eastern Modern Day, and World War II. Because this effort will require a large amount of new radio voice overs, we will also take this opportunity to update the radio communications for other entities like flight members, other flights, AWACS, tankers, etc. This will continue to be developed in 2021, but we do not have an estimated release date. FLIR New and Improved Forward Looking Infrared In the modern battlefield, a realistic rendering of FLIR sensors is mandatory, not just for aircraft but also for ground units, unmanned systems, and weapon sensor video. Given the need to create the underlying technology and then create thermal maps for all the world objects, terrain surfaces, and units, this has been quite a large task. We will continue to develop this well into 2021 and we hope to deploy this new FLIR enhancement in Q3 2021. AI Units New and Updated assets Because DCS World is built on a project spanning almost two decades, some units now show their age and will be updated throughout the year. It is also important that we add new units to better fill the battlefields. Here are some of the items that we intend to create or update in 2021: Large Aircraft: B-52H, Tu-95MS, Tu-142, B-1B, IL-38, and Tu-160 Carrier Aircraft: S-3B and SH-60B Ground Units: M1A2, AMX-56 Leclerc, Wespe Sd.Kfz.124, KS-19 100mm ADA, Son-4 “Flap Wheel” radar, C1 Ariete, Pantsir SA-22 “Greyhound”, and S-300/SA-10 “Grumble”. Enhanced AI Behaviour Currently, much of our AI engineering effort is focused on the AI aircraft behaviour, in harmony with the new damage modelling and in line with logical and understandable rules and practices. Additionally, the new ATC and radio communications will demand a significant amount of AI engineering. This work is ongoing and will probably never really be finished but we do hope to deliver substantial enhancements during the latter half of 2021. We have taken the liberty of limiting this overview to issues which have ‘officially’ been announced. Rest assured, many secret and exciting developments to the DCS core are ongoing and will be revealed in the fullness of time. In addition to our internal development, rest assured our brilliant third parties are hard at work to bring you some wonderful modules in 2021 and look forward to hearing from them very soon. Once again, thank you for all your passion and support in 2020. We hope that 2021 will prove to be a good year, one with many upward trends, not only for DCS but for you, our faithful community and for the world at large. 2021 Onwards and Upwards! Yours sincerely, 154

Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team F/A-18C Hornet An issue where RWR Contacts displayed on the wrong azimuth has now been resolved. We fixed an issue where moving the TDC caused the radar beam to stick. We also fixed a JSOW A/C manoeuvre error that caused a miss. Fuel Low BIT has been added, as well as auto-lase for the GBU-24 Paveway III. We are planning for these features and many more to be released in the next update to DCS World Open Beta 2.5.6. Check out the In Development Screenshots. F/A-18C Hornet Development Progress Ground Moving Target (GMT) Radar Mode Locating ground targets can be a difficult task, an important tool that can assist you is the Ground Moving Target (GMT) Air-to-Ground (A-G) radar mode. When enabled, this mode detects moving ground units and allows you to designate them for tracking. Note that GMT will not detect stationary targets. Instruction Video: Ground Moving Target (GMT) Radar Mode When paired with the AGM-65F Maverick and laser-guided bombs, GMT can be a useful tool for detecting, tracking, and engaging mobile targets. SEA Radar Mode Whilst the general MAP Air-to-Ground radar mode has been available for some time, we will soon introduce the SEA A-G mode. This mode allows the radar to detect and track ships out to 80 nm. This is particularly useful for engaging ships using the AGM-84D Harpoon anti-ship missiles with specific range and bearing targeting. SEA mode can also be interleaved to display MAP ground returns. Instruction Video: SEA Radar Mode When a target has been designated in SEA mode, the targeting pod can also be slaved to the target. If you have not already seen DCS: Reach for the Skies, check it out. Tinian Island Introduction Tinian is located approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometres) from mainland Japan, and was chosen as the suitable staging base for continuous heavy bomber attacks on the Japanese Islands. Immediately after the island's seizure by the US in the summer of 1944, construction began on the largest air base in the Pacific region, covering almost the entire island. The four runways at North Field were lettered "A", "B", "C" and "D" from north to south and were said to resemble the deck of a busy aircraft carrier. The North Field airbase was the first loading and launching point for the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. At the end of WWII the base was placed in a standby status and officially closed in March, 1947. Tinian International Airport is a public airport originally constructed by the Japanese during WWII with two parallel runways. It was subsequently repaired by the Americans, and then called West Field. Tinian airport now covers an area of 1,416 acres (573 ha) with one of the runways measuring 8,600 x 150 ft (2,621 x 46 m). In May 2012, the United States Marine Corps VMFA-121 operated its F/A-18D Hornets from the airport using M-31 aircraft carrier arresting gear systems. This airport is now owned by Commonwealth Ports Authority. Another big installation on the island - Robert E Kamosa Transmitting Station. The antenna curtain array along the central west coast of the island is a class of large multi element wire radio transmitting antennas, used in the shortwave radio bands. Suspended by supporting wires and strung between pairs of steel towers up to 300 ft (90 m) tall. These antennas are used by international shortwave radio stations to broadcast at transcontinental distances. Flaming Cliffs 3 Sale Flaming Cliffs 3 provides an easier learning curve for new players and focuses on a broad range of fighters rather than a single detailed aircraft. Get the F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A & S and Su-25A & T all in one single download. FC3 is a great way to get friends and family involved in DCS at a reasonable cost and with a reasonable learning curve. Rota Island Introduction Rota Island is the smallest of the populated islands and the second southernmost island of the Marianas archipelago. Despite the fact that the island had a small Japanese garrison of more than 2000 men during WWII, American troops never invaded it. It was however bombed occasionally by the U.S Navy in attempts to silence Japanese warning transmissions about B-29 Superfortress bomber attacks. Sinapalo village is the biggest settlement in the island and features Rota International Airport. The single runway was built and manned by the Japanese until the U.S Navy bombed it into disuse at the end of WWII. In September of 1945, the airfield was renovated and extended an impressive 5,000ft to serve as an emergency landing strip. The Songsong village on the island of Rota is located along the southwestern part of the island. The village has a population of less than 1,000 inhabitants and boasts a recognisable landmark known as Wedding Cake mountain, Mt. Tinubal. The layered rock and capes have been recreated in detail to include the natural dips of volcanic rock structures and the gentle sloping forms of the limestone plateau in the North part of the island. Black Sea Resolve ‘79 SorelRo Black Sea Resolve is a fictional, story-based campaign that will test your A/A and A/G skills. Here are a few thumbnails to give you an idea of what will be available. P-47D Thunderbolt Promotion Thunderbolt pilots often claimed that they could fly the P-47 through a brick wall and live. The P-47 Thunderbolt, nicknamed the Jug, served the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) in both the European and Pacific theaters. In total, 15,636 were built between 1941 and 1945. Many countries including France, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, Mexico, and Brazil also operated Thunderbolt to great success. The P-47D excelled in the role of fighter-bomber due to its heavy armament, rugged construction and Pratt & Whitney R2800 Double Wasp radial engine that was extremely reliable and capable of absorbing serious enemy fire. In addition to the impressive eight .50-caliber machine guns with 425 rounds per gun, the Jug was armed with bombs and rockets in the ground attack role. The P-47 saw action from 1943 in the bomber escort role before being replaced by the P-51 Mustang, which had longer range and higher performance as a fighter. ED Team Graphics Posted March 18, 2021 ED Team Share Posted March 18, 2021 19 March 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, Today, we are pleased to announce the Early Access features for DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI. The Mosquito will be optimised for multi-crew and will be the first two manned, twin-engined WWII aircraft in DCS World. Please have a look at the In Development Screenshots. The main weapon control system features for DCS: Mi-24P Hind have now been completed. We have also connected and finalised the interior and exterior sounds from the engines, systems and rotors. Pre-orders will soon be commencing and we would like to share our on-going tasks. Check out the cooperation between Reflected Simulations and Tomcat officer, 'Bio' Baranek in the DCS: F-14 Zone 5 Campaign by Reflected Simulations. If you are interested in becoming a campaign creator for DCS World, check out our forum for more details. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team Mossie Early Access All systems and components have been modelled in excruciating detail and include the recent cooling system updates that were made to DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt. Early Access Features; High-quality external 3D model 6 Degree of Freedom fully clickable cockpit with latest visual effects Flight Dynamics based on official reports, our own CFD research and pilot feedback Full Fuel system and optional external tanks Full electrical system Full hydraulic and pneumatic system Propeller feathering Early Access Armament: 4 British Browning .303 machine guns 4 Hispano 20mm guns 250lbs and 500lbs bombs in the bomb bay and under each wing The damage model for the Mossie considers the internal wood structure of the airplane and uses each internal element of the aircraft - oil, air, hydraulic and cooling systems, engine, throttle, trim, and the airframes main strength spars and stringers to calculate the visual damage. We are now able to consider all these factors, which in turn enables us to more accurately simulate damage to the airframe and the effects on the flight model. For example, damage to the wing skin will lead to a decrease in the lift and cause more drag, damage to the spar will cause strength reduction and potentially wing snap under certain strains. We look forward to sharing further progress, please check out In Development Screenshots. When the Mossie becomes available in Early Access, we will be considering feedback from the community and working on the next stages of development. Features coming after Early Access: Rockets armament Radio units T1154 (transmitter) & R1155 (receiver) The historical accurate navigation system for WWII aircraft Controllable AI navigator and radio operator Mi-24P Hind Development Report We are currently improving in cockpit reflections using our new pre-calculated ray tracing technique. This enhancement will be deployed to other modules in the near future. We are adjusting the sight line direction controls and missile guidance from the operator's seat. The operator AI features are being tested and debugging is going smoothly. Zone 5 Reflected Simulations ‘Bio’ entered the US Navy in 1979, and he boasts a 20-year long career. Barnek has over 2,500 F-14 Tomcat flight hours with 688 carrier landings. His logbook also records 450 instruction flight hours in the F-5E Tiger II. DCS: F-14 Zone 5 Campaign by Reflected Simulations This campaign gives a taste of 1980s air combat training and is fun and challenging. We hope you will enjoy this update to the World War II era product range and look forward to your constructive feedback, which helps us deliver better products. It lies about 5,800 miles (9,300 km) west of San Francisco and 1,600 miles (2,600 km) east of Manila. The Chamoru people settled on the island approximately 3,500 years ago and were essentially disconnected from the rest of the world until the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan discovered the island on March 6, 1521. Guam was subsequently colonized by Spain more than a century later in 1668. During the Spanish–American War, the United States captured Guam on June 21, 1898. On December 8, 1941, hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Guam was captured by the Japanese, who occupied the island for two and a half years. American forces recaptured the island on July 21, 1944. Since the 1960s, Guam's economy has been supported primarily by tourism and the U.S. military, for which Guam is a major strategic asset. When arriving in Guam, one of the first things you will see is “Antonio B. Won Pat International”. Originally built by the Japanese during the occupation, it became a base for the USAAF B-24 “Liberator” bombers in 1944-45. In 1947, the USAAF turned over the airfield to the United States Navy, who operated it as Naval Air Station Agana until 1995. Civilian use of the airport began in 1967 when the International terminal was opened. From this time onwards, the airport has been reconstructed and upgraded many times in order to cope with the growing air traffic and passenger requirements. Guam is a multi-ethnic island with a current population of more than 160,000 people. The island is divided into 19 municipal villages and required the terrain team to develop a large number of new and adapted ground assets. With tourism being the most prominent component of the island's economy, there are a lot of hotels and golf courses dotted along Tumon Bay. ED Team Popular Post Graphics Posted April 9, 2021 ED Team Popular Post Share Posted April 9, 2021 9 April 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We are pleased to inform you that Open Beta 2.7.0 is progressing well and will soon be available. This update will bring noticeable changes to DCS World including the new Clouds and fire effects as well as our advanced WWII propeller technology. We are working fast towards moving DCS: F/A-18C Hornet to Release state and you will enjoy some substantial enhancements which will be visible in the 2.7 Open Beta release. Extensive work on the ATFLIR targeting pod as well as the AGM-88C HARM modes has been completed as well as the Coupled Autopilot mode and new Radar modes which are also now in final testing. Bringing PB mode to the HARM for both Viper and Hornet required us to develop new math models capable of accurately predicting the optimum missile flight profile and the limits of the missile’s range envelope. Please read our HARM development research below. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team 2.7 - Is Coming If all goes well, DCS World Open Beta 2.7.0 should be launching on the 14th of April 2021 and will introduce the new Clouds and their large range of presets to choose from in the Mission Editor. We are also working on a Cloud generator capable of creating on-demand visual representations of much larger clouds such as towering cumulus and cumulonimbus. After the initial launch, we will continue the development of natural cloud cycles, severe weather behaviour, thunderstorms and fog. The new Clouds require weapon and radar atmospheric models to be significantly updated at the logic layer. We are sure that you recognise that this process is man-hour intensive and requires rigorous debugging. We thank you for your patience and support as we work towards steadily enhancing DCS World as a whole. WWII in 2.7 - Propellers A notable update coming to 2.7 is our unique and new technology that calculates the exact location of every propeller blade. This offers the possibility to draw a very accurate representation of the spinning propeller dependent on the type of prop, the number of blades, specific RPM and prop pitch. This approach allows for smoother blade transitions from still, to idle, through to taxing and take off, as well as proper transparency from all viewing angles, aircraft speeds, power settings and blade pitch. We have prepared for you this teaser video which demonstrates this new approach and we look forward to your feedback with great eagerness. Watch: New WWII Propeller Technology F/A-18C Hornet New Features The 2.7 update for DCS World will also see significant new functionality for the Hornet. Highlights include the ATFLIR targeting pod that will be available in parallel with the existing Litening targeting pod. The ATFLIR includes new field of view and zoom options, the ability to slew the sensor line of sight while in SCENE mode, display of waypoint markers and expanded coordinate display options. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | ATFLIR Basics The Coupled Autopilot mode allows the aircraft to automatically fly to a set location. This can be a waypoint, TACAN station, or target (TGT) location when in AUTO delivery mode. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | Coupled Autopilot Mode The new radar modes include the automatic wide acquisition mode (WACQ) that allows both a wide auto-acquisition scan and the ability to slew the centre of the automatic scan area. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | New Radar Modes Two new modes for the AGM-88C HARM anti-radiation missile will also be available: Pre-Briefed mode which allows the engagement of hostile surface radars from long range, and the Self Protect with Pull Back option which allows automatic HARM engagement of SAM threats as well as the ability to disable the weapon in flight. Please check out our instruction videos here: DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | New HARM Modes. Following the release of DCS World 2.7, we will release additional Hornet features that include: AGM-84K SLAM-ER land attack missile Offset Aim Points (OAP) RAID Single Target Track (STT) Mode New flares with increased carriage We look forward to sharing more information soon. HARM Development Report Predicting optimum missile flight profile and envelope range limits At first, we updated the HARM missile autopilot to make lofted trajectories more realistic. This is now not only limited to constant climb angle but also includes semi-ballistic flight with an optimal angle that provides a smooth trajectory, increasing missile velocity at impact and minimising time of flight. Optimal loft angle is computed by the aircraft and passed to the missile prior to launch. To calculate the missile range envelope we used a regression model which required us to perform tens of thousands of HARM launch simulations in varying conditions. The generated data was then passed to our regression model and compiled into just a few equations with several dozens of relevant coefficients. Solving these equations with respect to different variables allows us to obtain different types of usable data. For example, on the Viper’s HUD you can see maximum missile range, missile range for current flight conditions and pitch or turn angle required to hit the target within missile range. Missile range depends on the aircraft velocity, altitude, pitch and azimuth to target, thus the missile’s range envelope is bounded by a 4D hyper-surface which we can represent partially for fixed altitude and velocity, which defines a section of the 4D surface. Below you may see such a section with range depending on target azimuth and aircraft pitch only. We hope that this brief summary of the new features which will be released will help you to prepare for this next big update and we look forward to sharing more information regarding DCS World 2.7 next week. We are very excited by the upcoming improvements and have you to thank for staying by our side during these challenging times. New 3D loadout visualiser in mission editor All weapons and stores have been renamed and structured to provide more granularity and detail, allowing you to preview loadouts and liveries and get a much better understanding of your aircraft’s mission configuration. Weather System Our new Clouds have been released and we are delighted with the encouraging feedback from the community so far. Despite being a work in progress, we are aware of some of the major issues and substantial enhancements will be coming soon. Our priorities for Clouds include work on the wide range of sensors and weapons and how they interact with the new world and how AI behaves in varying conditions. This is particularly relevant for close air combat line-of-sight behaviour. The Clouds mark the start of a significant overhaul and upgrade to the entire weather system as we continue to recreate more realistic weather conditions. Damage Model - Fire Effects We are pleased to announce that our Damage Model has been enhanced to more accurately consider projectile types and impact locations to subsequently portray the corresponding burning, smouldering and blazing effects. This is just the beginning of the general damage and effects overhaul that is in the works and we eagerly await your feedback. New WWII AI Engagement logic AI will now consider enemy ability and relative position to decide whether to engage or to disengage. We have also considered functions for a lower level AI to make incorrect decisions. This is the start of our long journey to make AI behave more rationally and naturally. WWII Propeller Technology A notable update coming to 2.7 is our unique and new technology that calculates the location of every propeller blade and then regenerates the image to reflect the human eye’s interpretation of the movement. This approach allows for smooth and realistic blade transitions from still, to idle, through to taxing and take off, as well as proper transparency from all viewing angles, aircraft speeds, power settings and blade pitch. ED Team Graphics Posted April 23, 2021 ED Team Share Posted April 23, 2021 23 April 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, The union flags have now returned to full height following the mourning period for his Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip trained as a pilot on the Chipmunk and progressed to the Harvard and Vampire. He was awarded his wings by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir William Dickson at a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 4 May 1953. He became a Marshal of the Royal Air Force and Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps. The Duke of Edinburgh was an experienced pilot and logged 5,986 hours on 59 types. In 1972 Prince Philip, even flew Concorde himself, he was a passionate and very competent airman indeed. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and the whole family. This week we would like to bring your attention to DCS: The Channel. An impressive list of updates has been released, including more than ten V1 launch sites and four new UK airfields. Buildings and structures of interest have also been added and we encourage you to check them out. By popular demand and in order to ensure that users aren't tempted to enhance the performance of missiles in game, we have locked the LUA parameters. Starting today and running to 26 April, a DCS Weekend Deal is running on Steam with up to 50% on most modules. We hope that 2.7 has been a successful update for you and would like to thank you all for your bug reports and solidarity in improving DCS World. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team .LUA Changes As our online community grows and grows, we recognise that ensuring a level playing field for all has become an important matter and therefore, on popular demand we have locked the LUA files relating to weapon systems. The Channel Development Report East Church RAF Eastchurch remained active between the wars and was home to No. 266 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. During the Second World War, Eastchurch was part of Coastal Command, a fighter and bomber outfit that protected Allied troops and supply chains from the U-boats and the Luftwaffe. By 1943, Coastal Command finally received sufficient long range B-24 Liberators, equipped with enough Wandering Annies to prove extremely effective. The Command saw action from the first day of hostilities until the last day of the Second World War. It completed one million flying hours, 240,000 operations and destroyed 212 U-boats. Biggin Hill Between the wars, the airfield was used by a number of experimental units, working on instrument design, ground-based anti-aircraft defences, and night flying. The base was closed between 1929 and 1932 whilst renovations and the construction of two new hangars took place. Headcorn On the 6th of August 1943, 127 Wing Royal Canadian Air Force moved in 403 and 421 Squadrons equipped with Spitfires under the command of ‘Johnnie’ Johnson, the highest scoring wartime allied Ace in European theatre. On the 17th of April, 1944. The airfield was handed over to the 354th Fighter Group comprising the 353rd, 355th and 356th Fighter Squadrons who operated the North American P-51D Mustangs. There were 3000 ground crew supporting 70 aircraft. Today, as a private civil airfield and parachute centre, it also houses the Lashenden Air Cadets of 500 Squadron and Thurston Helicopters, a helicopter flying-school company. High Halden RAF High Halden was a Royal Air Force base in Kent. Opened in 1944, it was a prototype for temporary Advanced Landing Ground airfields, which were required for the rapid growth of air operations to support the growing activities as Allied forces progressed east towards Berlin. We have been working on the airfield and the mixture of agricultural field textures, as well as finer details around the bunkers and recognisable remains. 3D Units Ground Models LAZ-695 and Liaz 677 civilian buses The LiAZ-677 is a Soviet and Russian city high-floor bus, the first prototype released in 1963. Mass-produced from 1967 to 1994, assembly lasted until 2002. These were some of the most popular city shuttle buses in the USSR. SA-6 Gainful (NATO) 2K12 Kub The 2K12 Kub-M1 Surface to Air Missile system was initially developed for the Soviet Army Air Defence to supplement the larger and longer ranging SA-4 Ganef. The M1 variant was initially deployed in 1973. The SA-6 is a highly mobile system, and is able to quickly switch firing positions. The 1S91 Search and Track radar system comprises a tracked chassis with a centrally mounted turret, featuring two independently rotating sections, the lower of which mounting the acquisition radar, and the upper tracking and CW illuminator radar. This allowed the system to search for targets with the acquisition radar, and then perform tracking and illumination with the second radar. This provided much greater flexibility compared to the SA-4 Ganef. The combat debut of the SA-6 / 2K12 was during the Yom Kippur war of 1973. The superior low altitude performance of the weapon, and the CW semi-active missile seeker resulted in a much higher success rate compared to the earlier S-75 / SA-2 Guideline and S-125 / SA-3 Goa systems. The SA-6 has seen use in a variety of conflicts, including the 1982 Israeli invasion of Southern Lebanon. Desert Storm and the subsequent Northern/Southern Watch operations, and the 1999 Allied Force campaign. BTR-80 APC The BTR-80 is a wheeled amphibious combat vehicle designed to carry infantry and marines to the battlefield, it provides supporting fire from inside the vehicle. The BTR-80 mounts a turreted 14.5-mm KPVT machine gun and a coaxial 7.62-mm PKT machine gun. All of the features that we have highlighted in this week's letter are now available for you to use in DCS World 2.7 Open Beta. We are working diligently to fix existing bugs and will be providing an update in the nearest future. Thanks again to you and all the community for your passion and support, Yours sincerely, 15
ED Team Graphics Posted April 30, 2021 ED Team Share Posted April 30, 2021 30 April 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, DCS World 2.7 Open Beta is now running at full power and feedback is coming in fast from the community. Thank you all for helping us with bug reports and suggestions, it is highly appreciated. We are currently also working to improve clouds, water and wave issues and enhance certain terrain features before moving 2.7 to Stable. When DCS: Mi-24P Hind delivers to Early Access with v1.0 of the ‘Petrovich’ AI, you will notice that it is designed as a human assist tool which requests specific sets of instructions via the onboard AI, whether from pilot to co-pilot or vice-versa. Please see below for more information. We are also pleased to update you on the progress to Black Shark 3, including the revised cockpit, new external model, new avionics and weapons. This new version of the highly successful Ka-50 simulation should be available this summer and will be offered to existing owners of Black Shark II with a substantial discount. Hurry over to our Eshop and take a look and the important discounts available. Thank you again for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team Petrovich HIND Multicrew Petrovich Al's overall philosophy is based on the 'Functionality First' principle. The flight commands interface for Pilot-Operator to Pilot-Commander will be via a virtual HSI offering specific commands and sub-modes. This interface is controllable simply by use of the 4-way hat or 4 buttons (for keyboard ops) in addition to the use of the modern HOTAS practices of long and short presses. We also aim to use the Pilot-Commander's line of sight for target spotting and designation functions with transmission to the Pilot-Operator for further target recognition and engagement. A 'human' delay in response times is simulated and is measured from tester multi-crew interaction data and military practice guidelines for target spotting, identification and selection as well as the correct 'click to weapon activation' cycle times of the real platform. In addition, we are planning to prepare a special mode for Multiplayer slots, where Petrovich can be assigned limited abilities. These can be toggled per slot and chosen by the mission designer at will. As for the Al voices, we are planning to use two different Russian voices for each seat in the helicopter. Both gentlemen are former operational military pilots and will deliver English and Russian versions. More details will be made available in future Newsletters. Black Shark 3 Development Progress We are progressing well with the development of DCS: Black Shark 3 which will give the well-known Ka-50 attack helicopter a brand new external 3D model, enhanced cockpit and new features that expand gameplay, these include. Helicopter missile warning system (MWS) implementation Air-to-Air Igla missile implementation The sensors of the MWS will be integrated into the onboard defense system with the ability to display detected missile threats on the ABRIS. Igla missiles are similar to those used in MANPADS and can hit subsonic aircraft at ranges up to 6 km. To cater for these new missiles, two new pylons are added to the wingtips bringing the total number of hardpoints to six. These missiles are operated in a similar mode to the Boresight mode which is used on many Russian aircraft. Once power to the missile is on and the seeker axis directed to the target, the seeker can lock on to its heat signature. As the target enters the launch envelope of the weapon, the pilot can be ‘fire and forget’. Existing owners of the Blackshark 2 are free to continue flying the legacy Ka-50 or to upgrade to the new Blackshark 3 for a very reasonable price. Newcomers will be able to buy the full retail version as usual. Pandemic Campaign In August 2020, terrorist gangs took advantage of the unstable political situation in Iran and invaded part of the country. The Iranian government has requested military assistance from the Russian Federation. You will take part as a pilot of a Ka-50 attack helicopter in an anti-terrorist operation, with a limited contingent Russian armed forces. Key features: 12 story missions. Highly detailed briefings with pictures. Hundreds of specially recorded voice-over messages and radio broadcasts. Performing tasks, day and night in different weather conditions. A wide range of tasks, including patrolling, escorting convoys with weapons and transport helicopters, supporting ground forces and tasks to destroy enemy groups. Internal testing of this map is going well, and we are working to further improve the ground textures and address road network anomalies. Work on improving the ports and shorelines also continues. Our goal is to create the best looking DCS map yet by using our latest terrain development kit tools. US Naval Base, Guam The US naval base on Guam holds a massive amount of post-war resources and war material. In the late 1940s, the Seabees construction brigade extensively developed the land and it became the primary docking and storage facility for the Guam-based US Navy fleet. It remained under construction for the next 25 years. Ordnance Annex The Naval Magazine for the US Naval base is situated in the south-central section of the island. It occupies 8,800 acres, and it includes an entirely man-made reservoir. It is also the central heating and water distribution plant for the US Naval base. Northwest Field Northwest Field became a fighter base in October 1946, and it was home to the reactivated “Flying Tigers” fighter squadron. Equipped with P-47 Thunderbolts, it was assigned the responsibility of defending the Mariana Islands. Weapon stores and bunkers were built between Northwest Field and North Field. These facilities were used to support the long range and intense strategic bombing campaign against the Japanese. Andersen Air Force Base AAFB On the 7th of October 1949, North Field was renamed after Brigadier General James Roy Andersen, and it remains one of the largest and most important US air bases in the Pacific. It had a direct supply line from the United States and was considered ideal for B-52 Stratofortress operations. Andersen AFB now supports operations in the Indo-Pacific theater. P-47D Thunderbolt During 1944, the 318th was equipped with Republic P-47D Thunderbolts for the Marianas campaign. Working closely with Marine Corps ground forces, the ‘Bolts pioneered close air support and were the first to use napalm. P-47 pilots frequently carried two 500 lb bombs and used skip-bombing against railroad tunnels to destroy hidden enemy trains and stores. We hope this broad insight into Guam will be interesting to you and we look towards sharing more information on the WWII version of DCS: Mariana Islands in the near future. La Combattante II A fast attack craft that was originally designed for the German Navy, and later in their lives passed to the Hellenic Navy. Armed with 4 Harpoon missiles, a 76mm main gun, and a 40mm bofors gun, the La Combattante II packs a powerful punch. Variants of this class were supplied to Iran between 1977 and 1981, and were involved in clashes during Operation Praying Mantis in 1988, which saw the Iraninan La Combattante II class ship Joshan sunk by Standard missiles fired from the Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate USS Simpson. Seawise Giant Formerly Happy Giant, Jahre Viking and Knock Nevis, Seawise Giant was one of the largest self powered ships ever made. At 1504ft long, with a loaded displacement of 646,642 long tons when fully laden, the Seawise Giant was capable of holding 4.1 million barrels of oil. With a draft 81ft she was unable to transit the English Channel, Suez or Panama Canal. On the 14th of May 1988, whilst carrying a cargo of Iranian crude oil she was attacked by the Iraqi Air Force and sunk using parachute bombs. After the Iran-Iraq war ended, she was repaired and continued to serve a number of owners until she was sold for scrap in 2010. Leopard 2A5 First produced in 1979, the Leopard 2 saw various upgrades before entering service as the Leopard 2A5 in 1995. Powered by a 1479hp diesel engine, and capable of 68km/h over rough terrain, the Leopard 2 is a formidable main battle tank. The Leopard 2A5 can be differentiated from earlier versions by the wedge shaped applique armour on the front of the turret for additional protection. Armament consists of a Rheinmetall 120mm smooth bore L/44 main gun and 2 machine guns. Leopard 2A6M In March 2001 the Leopard 2A6 entered service with the German Army. The 2A6M is a variant of this, with upgraded mine projection for the hull. It can visually be distinguished from the Leo 2A5 by its longer L/55 120mm smoothbore main gun. Leopard 2’s have seen service with many countries, including Germany, Turkey, Greece and The Netherlands In 2007 Canada deployed 20 Leopard 2A6M to Afghanistan, taking advantage of the upgraded mine protection. The Leopard 2 line continues to be upgraded and developed today. Chieftain Mk3 Developed from the Centurion, the Chieftain was the primary main battle tank of the United Kingdom from the 1960’s to the 1980’s, when it was replaced by the Challenger 1. The Heavily sloped frontal armour on the turret increased the effective armour thickness from 120mm to 388mm. The main gun was a 120mm L11A5 rifled gun, with the then unique feature of having the gun round separate from the charge, which was encased in a combustible fabric bag - this removed the need to store or eject spent shell casings. The Chieftain saw considerable action in the Iran - Iraq war, with 894 of all variants being delivered to Iran prior to the revolution. Unfortunately, it proved somewhat unreliable and prone to failure during battle, and by the end of the war only 200 remained in service. BM-21 Grad Developed in the 1960’s, the BM-21 Grad is a Russian multiple launch rocket system that saw it’s combat debut in March 1969 during the Sino-Soviet border conflict. The English translation of Grad is Hail, and containing 40 122mm rockets that are able to all be fired in as little as 20 seconds, it certainly lives up to its name. The Grad is currently in service with many nations around the world, including Syria, Iran, Iraq and of course Russia. Also included in the latest Open Beta, is the PT-76 Soviet light tank, the VAB Mephisto ATGM, the Leopard 2 A4 and 2A4TRS, the T-155 Firtina, the AA-7 Airfield fire truck, the ATZ-5 Ural based fuel truck and the 5I57A airfield generator. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team Saipan Introduction Saipan Saipan is the current capital of the United States Commonwealth islands and it was part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. The island continues to be of strategic importance and is heavily supported by the United States military. Saipan International Airport In June, 1944, the Seabees of the 3rd Battalion 20th Marines repaired and expanded the airfield to become the Naval Advance Base Saipan, and it supported the first P-47s of the 19th Fighter Squadron. It covers an area of 734 acres and boasts two paved runways. The main runway currently measures 8,700 x 200 ft, and the second is 7001 x 100 ft. This airfield was the primary launch site for B-29 Superfortress missions that led to the massive destruction of Japanese industrial targets. Port of Puerto Rico on Saipan The Port encompasses 2,600 linear feet of berthing space and a 22-acre container yard. It has water and underground fuel lines protected by concrete vaults as well as a sewage removal system. Dockside lights run the length of the quay for night time operations. The channel, turning basin, and berthing areas have been widened and deepened to a uniform -40 feet in order to comfortably welcome medium- to deep-draft vessels. Two fuel storage facilities are also present at Saipan seaport to manage re-fuelling. Future improvements are the paving of the access road leading to the main port, upgrading of the security communication system, and water rescue equipment. Finally, improved navigational aids and repositioned harbor buoys mark the safest route into port with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard. Urban areas of the West coast The western side of the island is lined with sandy beaches and an offshore coral reef that creates a large lagoon. Saipan's flora is predominantly limestone forest. All shoreline and cliff textures, as well as the seabed and beaches, are being hand drawn for optimum accuracy. The buildings, houses, and large number of ground assets are all new additions to DCS World. Lao Lao bay Golf and Resort Since the 1970s, tourists from the United States and Japan have been traveling to the island to enjoy the natural beauty and other attractions. The tourist resorts have been recreated in detail, and they comprise special ground textures for the golf course. The eastern shore is composed primarily of rugged, rocky cliffs and a narrow underwater bank leading to the Marpi Reef, which lies 28 miles to the north. Farallon de Medinilla Situated about 45 nautical miles north of Saipan is the Farallon de Medinilla island. For years, the U.S.Navy has used it for military weapon testing and bombing exercises. Farallon de Medinilla has a length of 1.7 miles, a width of 490 ft in the south, expanding to 1,740 ft in the north, with an area of 0.326 square miles. At its narrowest, the island is only 66 ft wide. The shore is dotted with cliffs containing caves, and its table top surface has some shrubbery and savanna grass. The island also has three X-shaped figures and one Y-shaped figure that are built out of metal shipping containers. These arrangements have been left by the U.S. Navy for bomb targeting practice. Mi-24P Hind Development Progress Introduction In a previous update to DCS: Mi-24P Hind, we shared a preview of the Petrovich AI interface. The first video in the DCS: Mi-24P Hind series of tutorials is now available. We encourage you to take a look at DCS: Mi-24P HIND | Introduction for an overview of this beast. Quick Start Once you have learnt the basics, it is time to learn a simplified start up. Check out the DCS: Mi-24P Hind Quick Start guide to help you hit the ground running. Petrovich We have finished work on the hover flight mode for the Petrovich command and lateral and vertical movements using this system. The latency in command reception by Petrovich is in progress, and it will mimic the real life crew lag when communicating and processing information. In the next update, we will share details on Petrovich flight modes and how to use it in combat. SPO-10 RWR The SPO-10 Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) now recognizes radar emitters, and it provides visual and audible feedback. Currently, we are tuning this system, and we aim for it to be available at Early Access launch. ASP-17 Sight The ASP-17 weapons aiming sight is operational. It will be possible to manually adjust it and use its Continuously Computed Impact Point (CCIP) function. This is a highly accurate system when used over level terrain, and it is similar to the Su-25A’s weapons sight. Ground Units New Models T-155 Firtina This is a Turkish-produced, self propelled howitzer that is based on the ROK K9 Thunder. It entered Turkish service in 2004. Armed with a 155mm L/52 gun, the T-155 is capable of attacking targets up to 40km away, and it is able to quickly move firing position using its 66km/h maximum speed / 480km range. The T-155 has been involved in various Turkish operations along its border with Iraq and Syria, and it remains in active service with the Turkish Army today. VAB Mephisto A development of the successful French VAB APC, it was first produced by Renault in 1979 with over 5000 delivered. A retractable turret containing four ready to launch HOT-2 missiles with 8 reloads gives the VAB a lethal anti-tank capability out to 4000m. The VAB is fully amphibious, and its propulsors can be seen on the rear sides of the hull. This, along with its rugged and proven 4x4 drivetrain, gives the VAB fantastic off road capabilities. The VAB Mephisto has seen service with many countries, and in 2018, the Lebanese Army took delivery of 10 Mephisto’s from France. PT-76 First produced in 1951, the PT-76 is a Soviet light tank that became the primary reconnaissance tank of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries with over 12,000 produced. Armed with a 76.2mm rifled main gun, with an effective range of 1,500m, the PT-76 is heavily armed for a vehicle of its size. With a primary reconnaissance role, amphibious capability was essential; and, its water-jet propulsion was innovative for the time it was designed. The PT-76 has seen service in a variety of theatres, including the Vietnam war, the Six-Day War, the Angolan Civil War, and the Balkans Wars. The PT-76 is notable for being the first combat victim of the BGM-71 TOW missile, fired by an experimental UH-1B near the Vietnamese city of Kontum in 1972. Leopard 2A4 and 2A4TRS Produced between 1985 and 1992, the Leopard 2A4 is the most widespread version of the Leopard 2 line. Earlier German Leopard 2s were upgraded to 2A4 standard. The 2A4 was the first major upgrade to the Leopard 2 line, bringing an all new digital fire control system that was able to employ more varied ammunition types, an automated fire and explosion suppression system, and an improved turret with titanium/tungsten armour. The Leopard 2A4 was the last variant to have flat, frontal armour on the turret; subsequent variants would have wedge-shaped, spaced, frontal armour. Turkey is a major operator of the Leopard 2 line, and it has upgraded many of them to the Leopard 2 A4TRS standard. This incorporates additional armour, upgraded optics, and a new fire control system. Turkey’s Leopard 2’s have seen significant combat along the border with Syria, with the older Leopard 2A4’s flat, frontal armour turrets proving vulnerable to Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) fire. ATZ-5 Ural Fuel Bowser Based on the proven 5T 6x6 Ural-375 chassis, the ATZ-5 fuel bowser was produced in large numbers, and it is an integral part of any mechanised formation. AA-7 Firefighting Truck Again based on the Ural-375 chassis, the AA-7 is an airfield firefighting vehicle equipped with a variety of equipment for extinguishing fires and performing search and rescue operations at airfields. All of these models are now available in DCS World Open Beta. Thank you for your passion and support, Yours sincerely, 21
