Guzzo Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Hi all, a quick question about manual bombing: with reticle value = 0, shouldn't the reticle position be aligned with horizon if flying level flight like in the picture? What is meant, otherwise, for the reticle value = 0. How is it calculated the starting position of the reticle? Thanks all
Bunny Clark Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 The horizon line will never be in a fixed location, as it's vertical location on the HUD is a function of AoA. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Bunny's: Form-Fillable Controller Layout PDFs | HOTAS Kneeboards | Checklist Kneeboards
Frederf Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 0 for manual pipper is just some fixed point on the HUD. I would think it would be the ZSL but it's arbitrary. 1
Guzzo Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 And do you know how many degrees/millirads the ZSL is below the flight path vector? Or do you know how to get this info?
Frederf Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 The ZSL is a fixed position relative to the airframe and the pipper an adjustable position relative to that. Flight path angle during any attack is something that's calculated on the ground. The academics of calculating manual pipper solution is a deep subject. For an introduction I suggest chapter 3 of https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/local/docs/pat-pubs/P-1209.pdf 1 1
