Game freezes in multiplayer

OK, I have to admit there is a problem that I'm not able to solve...

 

In multiplayer, on certain severs only (169th, 104th, RAF), FC freezes completely. Sometimes there are only "hickups", sometimes game turns into slideshow, but each time in freezes under 10 min since joining the server.

 

I do not belevie that it is a simple lagging issue, because I sometimes do have lagging, or I note that others are lagging, but the game does not completely freeze up.

 

Now, here is the strange part - games freezes when I turn my "head" into the direction of the enemy! Namely, it goes like this... Game loads up, mission loads up, I'm in the cockpit, all is OK, then I move my (cockpit) view into the direction of enemy - and freeze! What is oddest of the all, the distance of the enemy could be as far as 150 km (estimated by MFD). It does not matter whether they are close by or far away.

 

Again, it happens only on certain servers, mostly aith a2a missions. The number of players seems to bare no importance whether or not a freez will ocurre, just how fast it will happen (larger number of players - faster, under 1 min, up to 10 players - up to 10 min).

 

No such problems on a2g servers, gunzo servers, other then on above mentioned a2a (combo?) servers, not in singleplayer, nor in any other game (IL2, TOCA...)

yes i have exactly the same problem.

Vista Ultimate with 8800 GTS SLI/ 4GB/ E8500/ HD raptors

 

Alt tab and come back into the game, sometime it fix .. for a while anyway.

Exactly on the same servers i'm looking into it as well something with RAM/Vram loading ( feels like ).

This is very annoying while entering into combat zone ;) and crash

Now i hope this is not a Vista problem and i hope there is some kind of fix not trick.

Well, at least I'm not alone :cry:

 

Forgot to mention: Win XP, and ALT+TAB not working at all as keyboard is also frozen (once I was persitent and after 15-20 minutes a "Cancel" message appeared). Also, very rarely, I manage to enter the combat zone, but not closer then 10 km from oponnent and then it freezes up instantenously and completely.

 

What RAM/VRAM settings are you thinking about?

I got similar problem!

 

But my game doesn't freeze but example on RAF ALWAYS when I go to Red and turn on to enemy I got much FPS down (almost slideshow, about 10 FPS). I don't know is it mission failure or game engine crap or something else. Always on RAF in specific mission, last also on 169, I had to quit. I play without fullscreen mode on XP32bit SP3. Another missions works good, any ideas how to solve this annoying problem when sometimes immadietly FPS go down without reasonsible reason?

Something make me think of VRAM getting full then swaping with the HD and stutter all over.. ?.... almost like something don't get purged... I'm producing 120 FPS+ ( ground )to a complete slide show.

Tested again on RAF. Playability OK until closing to about 20 km from ENEMY (there were other friendly aircraft around me and no problems).

Then game turned into slideshow, and after few "slides" it froze up completely. Eventualy exited the game, but no tacview.

 

EDIT - there were about 15 players at that time

Yesterday I was on RAF, fired missile, it didn't hit, after few seconds game completely crashed even without any message oO

Same problem (online freez some times).

C2 Duo 1.8, 2GB RAM, ... Vista ultimate....

 

+I have periodically falling down FPS over full cloudiness (to 2-4). But if i zoom to MFD for exampl, FPS returning to normal (25-30).

 

Moust interesting thing in this situation, is that this problem occurred from nowher, it was excellent before....

No Vista, and 4 GB, and still freezing up.

 

It must be something in the mission. A friend of mine created a coop mission with bunch of static objects, and with 4 players stuttering was horrible. When he removed half of the static object, things improved much. Then I removed all aircraft that were static objects, and things were even more smoother.

 

Each time we had a ping in range 50-100. Now, there is a difference between stuttering and lagging - lagging occures with high ping, but FPS is around 25-30. However with stuttering and freezing, ping is irrelevant. LO froze up on me with average ping 55. Initial FPS was 35, but in the direction of static objects it went down to 15.

Yesterday without any reasons some ppl from 169 said that their FPS dropped even about 50%, in my case from 18 to 10. Simple I guess LO fault, or mission.

Did you check the load ( task manager ) when the stutters are happening ? 1.5 or 2 GB ?

 

During online freez-up only thing that worked was the reset button. Teamspeak was operational, but keyboard, mouse and joystick refused to comply. Rapid applying of excessive and cruel force did not help.

 

During mentioned squad testing, I'm afraid it did not occure to me to check the task manager :doh:

Will do a comparison on the next run, but stutering definetly decreased firstly by removing static objects, then by removing AI helicopters.

 

I'll check the exact number of ground units as well, but in another squad mission (no dedicated server!), with more then 200 vehicles (about 50 moving), 6 players flying various payloads on both A-10 and Su-25T, there was only lagging for players with larger ping, no sttutering or freezing.

 

Later on I introduced about 6 AI enemy helicopters, and there was a small increase in FPS at my end, but other players did no complain.

OK, awarded myself with new Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT to replace 7600 (not 7800 as in my first post!), and again the same thing...

 

I've entered 169th on red side, waited for few minutes on taxi for a buddy of mine, then F-15 appeard high over Maykop, when I pointed the camera toward him violent stuttering, F-15 was jumping around like crazy (contrails formed snoflake), and the game froze up.

 

Everybody from my squad has quite similiar problems, but mostly hick-ups and stuttering, not freezing up.

 

Why is it that it freezes when I look toward enemy aircraft ?!? There were no static objects, as that particular F-15 (and few other Blue aircraft) were above me.

I think there is an issue with shadows and Nvidia cards. Switch them to all planar or off. (I forget)
