LastRifleRound Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Is this coming to the mirage? It would make PI bombing much more viable since we won't be bound to the limitations of the ruler tool.
Galinette Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Is this possible with other Aircraft? You can't use BAD function on the INS for this?
LastRifleRound Posted January 23, 2021 Author Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) It was announced for the Harrier, and there's some bug where it's active for some people already but not for others. Yes, you can use the BAD input functions in the pit, but your input is limited to .10's of degrees, and the map ruler only has a precision of 1 degree. For any reasonable run-in distance (around 7nm), the difference between 0 deg and .9 deg can be hundreds of feet. Being able to place it in the editor means the precision will only be limited by your placement of the point itself, or at least will resolve to the nearest .1 deg which would be good enough. Frederf Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 The most accurate form of offset bombing is to find the XZ coordinates on F10 map and use the deltaL/L offset. One takes the X Z coordinates of the update point and target and finds the difference of X and Z. It is accurate to the meter. Rho-theta is much less accurate. Of course this is slightly more laborsome than automatic data from the mission editor based on the waypoint-and-triangle waypoint task which should be made automatic in DCS.
Galinette Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Can the mission editor be extended by mods in such way? I'm not sure. Until then, you can use this: https://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html

How do you do this mathematically? Is it just simple subtraction? On 1/31/2021 at 4:01 AM, Kercheiz said: Can the mission editor be extended by mods in such way? I'm not sure. Frederf Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 You want direction-distance if you're using rho-theta technique. For dL/L I cannot recommend highly enough dX/dZ. If my position X-00349719, Z+00614174 and target is X-00355834, Z+00618685 then dX = -6115 and dZ = 4511. Negative X is south and positive Z is east. You plug in 4511m east and 6115m south and do the proper offset attack it is very precise. X-284635 Z+684396 X-273402 Z+698160 d 11233 N 13764 E Unfortunately I just found a bug where dL/L of 00.001 should be 1m. Instead it is 1km. One should enter 11.233 km N normally but right now that puts it 11,233 km N. This makes dL/L impractical. 1

This works great after the latest update. With updates no longer being perfect there's a skill to it and it's very satisfying to get it right. Thanks for this. 1
