rapid Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I finally bit the bullet and replaced my old Saitek G Pro Flight Rudder had it for a while but got fed up with the clonking clacking sounds it would make when I used it plus one of the springs broke in one of the pedals yes its a known problem. Had it since DCS released the the first module BlackShark so it had a good innings. So I got myself a Thrustmaster tpr and I must say it is nice and quiet no clacking or clonking and so far so good. Did a search on the forums and only found one major issue but it may have just been one off - snapped nut. Took me a while to get one due to the present climate. I take it everyone who has one is satisfied with it? Dunx Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 Very happy with mine, 1 year+ and still tight. I bolted mine to a large MDF sheet pushed under my desk to the wall. rapid Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 Cheers for that, my desk is against the wall the unit is pressed against the wall so works out fine for me. aegis53 Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I couldn't justify the cost of the TPR ($900) but went with the T-Rudder Mark IV pedals for around $400, very pleased with the product, great quality also no plastic in sight. Changes the whole dynamic of the flying experience, a great product. Only limitation, no Toe Brakes, to have brakes or an extra $500 in the pocket, you decide....... I'm happy I went with this product.
rapid Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 (edited) I hear you about the price. If the spring hadn't broke in my Saitek, plus the fact that I had it since Black Shark was released I decided on a new set. I was looking around for a set that had toe brake as I had gotten used to using it on the A-10c and maybe the fact the I already had the Hotas and Throttle by TM I bit bullit. Was it worth the price well that's a big fat NO. But setting the price aside I do like the peace and quiet no more plastic clacking sounds when I use the Rudder system. Glad you are happy with your choice and that there is a market that offers choice and individuality for selecting components. VpR81 Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) Hmmm... not realy. At least not satisfied anymore, but was in the beginning. I payed 480€ (~550$) for mine and think even this price is way too high for what those pedals provide. Better put another 100 bucks on top and get the Slaw Viper RX pedals, wich are propably the best pedals money can buy. Precision could be better with the TPRs and the springs are waaay to soft. Put a couple of rubber bands around the pendular system on the back and now they feel almost like hydraulic pedals. But just almost. Got them for 2 years now and no fails or issues so far. But they were very uncomfortable to operate under a desk. In a simrig/pit with low seat height now, it's way more comfortable to use them. rapid Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 I hear yah VpR81, But again it's still down to choice. Some people like their springs soft and some like them hard- like yourself, again this down to preference. I have mine situated under a desk without any issues. I measured the height of the TPR before I brought it and saw that it was about 20" tall which is not an issue my for desk. As for the Slaw been the best Rudders you can buy again this is down to opinion and choice. I looked at the Slaw but didn't take to it- again choice. Nice to know that you have had your TPR for 2 years without issue that is very reassuring to hear. Many thanks Rapid. VpR81 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Sure, of course this is down to personal preference. Well, the softest position of the springs is in fact very soft, so there is a spring setting for people who like their pedals soft. But since the strongest prositions difference is marginal, there is no spring setting for people who like their pedals strong. Wich i think, should be provided with ~500€ rudder pedals. But as i said, i put a dozen of rubber bands around the pendular system at the back of the pedals and it's more or less fine now. I mainly choosed the TPRs because of the pendular mechanism and it is pretty good. They are nice rudder pedals overall and i have no doubt you will enjoy them, quality and precision wise they are a significant upgrade to the Saitek pedals. They are just way too expensive imo. 350-400€ would be ok i guess, as i don't see them provide any better qualitiy, materials or technology than the Virpil rudder pedals, and by far not than the Slaws, wich could justify the higher price. Just a big brand name printed on them. Quality-wise they are absolutely ok by my experience and should serve you very well, but i for myself will definately go with the Slaws for my next pedal set. The Slaws are way ahead in terms of axis precision and used materials while only beeing slightly more expensive (at least here in central europe). Cheers Total agree with you, way over priced and for that price you definitely should have much more options available to you. Thanks for pointing out that the Slaw has better Axis precision and better materials. I appreciate your input. Cheers.
