Warmbrak Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 The server I play on features the CSAR script for pilots that managed to eject from their aircraft. These downed pilots can then be picked up by helicopters. The Gazelle is perfect to slip in and out of enemy controlled territory, and I was looking forward to using the door gunner variant on these missions for fire support. Sadly it appears that the door gunner can only be manned by you as the player. I think I may have been spoilt with the UH-1 and Mi-8 door gunners for these kind of missions, but I was under the impression that the underlying mechanism for door gunner AI is already implemented in DCS? I have tried occupying the gunner station myself and it is not my cup of tea. I am also not interested in entertaining another human in the cockpit so I am not looking for a multi-station solution either. Is there is chance that we could get door gunner AI for the Gazelle in future with a simple ROE selection that include No Fire - Return Fire - Fire at will options?
Herastean Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I am curious about this myself... Are we ever going to get an AI for the door gunner? I mean, this is implemented in the other helicopters, so its not going to be too much of a bother for the devs to implant it in this module I suppose. We definitely need this, so far the Gazelle has been a big dissapointment in the fact that, while its a superb platform, it lacks what the other helicopters have... I fly on a server where troops invade cities and what not, so we need helicopter patrols to circle towns and shoot down moving infantry, and I'd like to take this beast on patrol over there instead of having to rely on a Hip or Huey.

Hook47 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 The Gazelle minigun didn't have AI because when it originally released a number of years ago, it had totally functional multicrew. That is now a thing of the past, and Polychop seems to have depreciated any active support of multicrew functions. They have said a few times that once ED rolled out multicrew they would fix it, but that is yet to be seen. Sadly the Gazelle is in pretty bad shape and I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the addition of Gunner AI anytime soon. I hope Polychop will revisit this bird and make it as good as it used to be, but right now they are totally focused on this OH-58 project. 1
