BrzI Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi folks, I have a mission where a Reaper lases a target that I can successfully destroy with an LGB12. But why am I unable to see the laser beam with my NVGs ? Thanks
Tholozor Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Designating lasers operate on a different frequency than that of IR pointers. BrzI Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 Where can I find out more about IR pointers in DCS ?
Tholozor Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 In the Mission Editor, the drone can be told which designation method to use on a target. In the advanced waypoint actions, the 'FAC - Assign Group' and 'FAC - Engage Group' tasks can be told to use the IR pointer (it will not use the IR pointer and the designating laser at the same time, however). 1 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
BrzI Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 What exactly is the difference between FAC Assign Group' and 'FAC - Engage Group Shoudln't Engage group be sufficient ? Thanks
Tholozor Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) The difference between them is whether or not the task is a 'Perform' task, or an 'Enroute' task: - If you give an AI the Perform task (FAC - Assign Group), it will execute that command immediately and ignore everything else. This task will cause the AI to focus solely on this group, and can be useful if the mission maker desires a specific group to take immediate priority over other designations that are already underway (e.g. via a Triggered Action). This task will automatically force the designating unit to know the targeted group's exact location. - If you give an AI the Enroute task (FAC - Engage Group), it will add that command to the queue of commands already present, and execute it when it becomes relevant in their waypoint actions. This task has a priority option that allows a mission maker to prioritize groups that are to be designated in a desired order (0 being the highest priority). This task has an option that forces the designating unit to know the targeted group's exact location, unlike the Assign Group which is forced as true. Leaving this unchecked gives the designating unit the possibility of not being able to locate the assigned target group if it's not within visual range or line-of-sight. If you're only using the AFAC unit to designate a single group with no additional triggered events or desired priority, either option will work just as well. Both options permit the use of controlling the method of designation.
