Looks like I'm going to start clean and go back to XP pro. I can't say I've had "nothing but trouble" with Vista, but there's been enough.

Cable modem "not connected" on power up about 85% of the time.... Reboot brings it up, but often knocks out the USB mouse (about 50% the time) so I have to crawl under the desk and replug it- often 7 or 8x- to get it working again.

SP1 just about killed my microphone. I have T.S. MAXXED out and I have the +20dB boost on just to be heard in a normal volume.

Updating CAT drivers to 8.6 did something to render Catalyst AI unuseable in LOMAC. The display goes frikkin nuts, and I'm still not 100% sure if my Crossfire is working- whether AI is on or not. There's a "GPU ID" button that only says "1" whether AI is activated or not...

I was also suffering full-load blue screen crashes that AFAIK were because of the CAT AI being on in LOMAC. (no apparent issues outside of LOMAC) I don't know if Vista plays a role in this or not..

I have 4 speakers & a SUB. I know from the testing app that ALL 4 speakers work- but I have yet to hear anything from any application on my outer 2 satellites. Music, LOMAC or otherwise. I would bet money that all 4 were working on my previous machine.

That's all I can think of for now, lol.. I have an opportunity to replace it cheap, so think I'm done with it.

On the topic of Vista: LockOn aside, which obviously runs relatively stress-free on XP as opposed to Vista - what would the general consensus be of Current Shooters etc etc (Ex S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Crysis and future instalments) running on Vista as opposed to XP?

Would Vista be preferred to XP as far as those are concerned, ie would one see a marked performance increase from Vista?

Contemplating a new PC which will see 2 Hard Drives with XP on one drive and Vista on another with LockOn running on the XP drive exclusively with all others running through Vista.

Advisable/Feasible? Thoughts?

Well- I chose to get Vista mainly because of the potential of DX10. I also assumed that- since Vista was well over a year old at the time- that much of the troubles had been worked out. But- it seems that the DX10 games are all shooters- I'm just not interested in those. I'm not a fan of MS flight sim either.

Now that I know that DCS isn't making any real progress with respect to the utilization of the newer hardware- That's pretty much the last nail for me. Why continue to stress about how many things are going to break everytime windows' update runs?
