RedTiger Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 (edited) Title says it all! Now that I have a PC capable of actually correctly displaying fog :music_whistling: , I've noticed that the fog affects how far out your can see targets in TV pictures, regardless of zoom and regardless of you "MFD" config setting. In fact, it seems like if I can't see it on the ground out of the cockpit canopy, I can't see it on the TV. I can see the trees and terrain perfectly fine, but the tank remains invisible. Sometimes it will lock on to it while invisible. I have my "MFD" setting turned up to some obscene amount, like 100,000 km and frankly, I see no difference between that and 40,000 km. Should I turn up the clipping setting for static objects and vehicles? I already have that set to the default "high" setting? How about lod? Will bumping up to 3 from 1.5 help? Well- on it's face- that sounds right to me. I don't think the Skhval has any counter-fog measures or filters.. Along these lines- having the MERC pod on @ night doesn't make a hill-o-beans difference with the 29T. It still can't see a damn thing for the most part. RedTiger Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Maybe I'm not fully appreciating how fog would affect what is essentially looking through a camera at something. I just figured a high level of zoom would help, but I think I'm expecting real life to work how I'd expect the sim to work, when its probably the other way around. The thing that kills the immersion is the fact that the effect of fog on a far-off object seems to be heavier on things like tanks, parked airplanes, buildings, etc. than it is on trees and terrain textures.
S77th-konkussion Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 (edited) No. I think you'd be zooming in closer to....... fog droplets. Line of sight is still the determining factor- and the fog is inhibiting the line of sight. I agree, it's a bit strange but hey, this is lockon, old graphic engine and so... :smilewink: Anyway, if able (no SAM/ennemy fighters threat), try to climb ! The fog has a fixed density in LO, let's say it's set to 900m. It also has a fixed max altitude, most likely lower than the density (let's say 200m). The higher you are, the bigger is the angle value between your LOS and the ground. And the farther you can see the targets, cause your LOS go trough less fog. ;) Cheers :) Az'
