I'm currently running DCS open beta via Proton/Steam, and bought the F-14 today. Unfortunately, I can't control the plane. No matter what I do, the plane loads, but I can't get in the cockpit. Instead, the AI takes control immediately. The F1 key simply does not work at all (the starting view is the map rather than the cockpit). I've tried loading tutorial scenarios, the campaign, creating a scenario in the mission editor, and instant action. It's always the same: I can't take control of the aircraft.

There are no error messages of any kind showing. All other planes (incl. the AJS37 Viggen, for example) work fine.

I checked the logs and found this:

2021-03-01 14:02:48.840 ERROR   EDCORE: Failed to load Z:/home/tony/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/DCSWorld/Mods/aircraft/F14/bin/F14-Avionics.dll: (126) Modulen hittades inte.

("Modulen hittades inte" = "Module not found")

Could this be the problem? The file is in the location specified, so I don't know why it's not loading.

I realize that running DCS through Proton isn't exactly a supported user scenario, so I understand if it's simply incompatible for some reason. But I figured I'd at least ask and see if anyone has seen anything like this.

Hi Crovop, @Naquaii already talked to you on discord he told me. This is an issue for the steam support channel, and might simply be related to proton/linux etc - since common steam users do not share this issue. Thank you for reporting it.

  • IronMike changed the title to [PROTON/STEAM ISSUE] F14-Avionics.dll problem?

I found the solution, posting it here for future reference for others who may experience the same thing:

If I add a symlink from the game root directory to bin/vorbisfile.dll it works. Apparently F14-Avionics.dll couldn't load because vorbisfile.dll couldn't be loaded, so it's similar to the known issue with webrtc_plugin.dll.

EDIT: the same problem has apparently caused problems with other DLCs as well, but the solution may require other dll files. The problem is described in this thread (scroll down a bit): https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1722
