didn't see this in chuck's guide, so was wondering what the "SHIP" mode on the IR MAV does?

Sets the MAV to track a ship (presumably a larger object) and hit it at the waterline (not sure, but I doubt the hitting at waterline is modeled yet -- I could be wrong on that)

it automatically goes for the water line? thats pretty nasty.

As far as I know, it does two things:

Changes the locking gate trackers to look for an object that is significantly wider than it is tall, so something that is ship shaped rather than vehicle shaped.

Changes the guidance logic to target a ship at the waterline rather than the object centroid.

Neither changes are apparent in the targeting video feed. The waterline targeting shift doesn't occur until the missile is launched, so before launch you will still see the tracking gates locked on the target centroid. I don't know if it really does anything at all in DCS, and even if it does the ship damage model in DCS right now means it's ultimately meaningless.

On the AGM-65G, SHIP mode is activated by a physical switch on the missile. I have no idea if the F version really includes a software toggle for this on the MFD or if it's a DCS thing.
