Awarding Medals

I really wasn't sure where to post this.  I got the inspiration after downloading @Home Fries excellent logbook improvements modification (great work, Sir!).

 

I was interested in his work since I am flying the Hornet and wanted my logbook to have the proper ranks and medals for the USN.  After checking out the LUA file to see what medals were available I realized that medals appear to be assigned solely on mission points.  For instance, once your logbook mission score is greater than 200, you are awarded the Achievement Medal.  The progression goes up all the way to the Medal of Honor.  There are only 8 total medals available (scores between 200-3000).  Has anyone considered expanding medals beyond just a mission score?  Heck, I don't even know if it's possible.

 

I am thinking it would be neat for a campaign such as Raven One, as a for instance, to award the sea service ribbon once the player completes the campaign.  Or maybe an overseas service ribbon for campaigns completed on foreign soil.  If so inclined, a modification like this could also assign ribbon devices like stars, oak leaf clusters, etc. for second/subsequent awards of the same medal.

 

Of course this is completely unnecessary for the enjoyment of DCS and possibly breaks the logbook screen if it tries to display too many medals.  I don't have any idea on that.

 

I am curious ... has anyone ever looked into something like this?  IDK, maybe writing data into a LUA file isn't possible, or the core engine is hardcoded at 8 total medals.

 

Just thinking out loud - I suspect after all these years, if this was possible, someone would have already done it.
