HitchHikingFlatlander Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) I'm looking for a campaign set or missions that involve air tankers with the A10. I guess since the hog is a forward CAS plane in the games missions and is generally close to home is why we dont see them but I'd like to give it a shot anyways! Thanks in advance for the help! HitchHikingFlatlander Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Well I created a simple tanker mission (I think)! And maybe I'm doing something wrong but man what a pain in the @ss! Is it really that hard for A2A refueling or did I not set something up right? The only messages I got from the tanker were "break off" ("your going to freakin hit us moron") type messages! I did set the waypoints up for refueling but maybe there is something else like a radio contact I have to make......... Well in any case it was a good way to get into mission making with LOMAC, I can pull it off with 1946 but this beast is different in a good way, I like the editor compared with Il2. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 Well I thought I'd refine my first question in the thread. Does anyone know where I can find some tanker refueling tutorials. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe its just a hard thing to do in game.......... Can anyone help kinda bummed that in a month no one ever really replied. Hope someone has tried it before or had the same difficulty as I have. I know for the most part re-fueling is kinda useless but for those late nights with nothing else to do I thought it would be a way to learn something new as well as kill some time! Thanks in advance for any help! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
SuperKungFu Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Refueling with an A-10 is very easy. Basically, just open your refueling receptacle and slowly approach the tanker. Since there's no advance flight model, this is pretty much scripted and if you get close enough, it would just automatically guide you in. F-15 is a bit harder since you are in a faster aircraft so maintaining your speed takes some work and the refueling receptacle is on the left side of the aircraft. The Su-33 is the most difficult one since the computer doesn't help you. It just takes practice. There are training videos of in-flight refueling on flankertraining. Its under flight basics near the bottom http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/flightbasics.htm You could probably find some track files as well on lockonfiles that relates to this but I haven't looked. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Thanks a lot man, I thought I looked on there through the excellent tutorials, guess I missed them. Sometimes I just fire up the game and cruise around and this gives me something else to try! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Well I successfully pulled it off with the A10 last night my first good try was with the F15 and I really thought I was going to get it, until I gave it too much stick underneath and turned us both into fireballs LOL! I really think that helped the second try in the A10 because its was much easier with the refuel door up front dead center! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
SuperKungFu Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 yea exactly, the A-10 is the easiest among the 3 capable refueling planes in lock on. You are going so slow anyway, its easy to match up the speed of the tanker. Plus the refuel door is smack dab right in the middle like you mentioned. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
