AeoNGriM Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hiya guys, I've just recently bought LOMAC Gold and I'm patiently awaiting delivery of my X52 Pro, so to kill some time I'm modding the crap out of my game! I've patched to 1.2b, and I'm looking to get as realistic and as immersive an experience as I possibly can so I was hoping one or two of you more experienced aces could help me out and list off some of the must have, essential mods that would be compatible with my version. Which brings me to my next question, I see that some people have several installs in order to play some of the different mods not compatible with the later patches. At this early stage of my LOMAC experience, is this something that you would recommend that I do myself, if so what versions and mods do you recommend I try out? Thanks for any help you guys can be, and hope to get to know some of you better as I earn my wings!
Aeroscout Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) Register at this site: http://www.lockonfiles.com/ It should be your number 1 resource for any lockon download. Its got everything you could want. Look for a program called ModMan (Version 6.x.x) which is used to install nearly all mods. Search lockon files for mods that interest you. (Just make sure they're compatible with FC v1.12) What I recommend depends mostly on your preferences and what your system is like. There is the Sim-Mod Reload terrain which is really cool. A member over at lockon files named rugbutt also updated the other seasons to complement this mod. There are many MANY skins over there, or you could make your own. (You can find templates over there too) along with new aircraft models (The Walmis F-15 and the SimMod A-10) If you want to do your own modding, You can use ModMan to search through the CDDS files in your lockon directory and find the file you wish to edit and extract it. edit it and then drop in in your lockon\bazar\TempTextures folder. The TempTextures folder acts as a high folder. The sim will look for textures there before it looks for them in CDDS files. The sim also uses .lua files, which are very open to editing and you can do A LOT editing these files. The .lua language is very simple to understand and thus very easy to edit. Well, happy hunting/modding and welcome to the lockon community! AeoNGriM Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) Thank you very much for your replies! I reckon I've got enough from these two posts alone to understand what I'm at now, I'll stick with version 1.12b (yes that was my mistake :P ) and grab some choice mods from LockOnFiles.com Your advice is greatly appreciated, and when my X52 arrives, and I've logged some decent flight hours I'll pop online and hopefully meet one or two of you guys in the skies above! Thanks again, gentlemen! EDIT: My rig, if anyones interested. AeoNGriM Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 Another newbie question, will mods tagged as 1.1 and 1.1xx compatible work with my 1.12b install? I've been reading the top stickied post with the list of must have mods, and the ADA mod which says 1.1 ONLY is listed as being compatible with the post author's 1.12a install.........I'm finding it hard to tell which mods I can install and which will screw up my installation :(
Aeroscout Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 1.00/1.02=Vanilla lockon. Do NOT install these 1.1/1.11/1.12a/1.12b=Flaming Cliffs. Any of these are OK to install The 1st decimal place determines whether it's FC or not. The 2nd decimal place determines the patch, in this case, 1.12b. Hope that helps, and don't worry about asking "newbie" questions, it's very confusing. AeoNGriM Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks for your reply, Lotham. I have most of those mods downloaded but since I'm a trainee, I think I'll fly the stock planes for a while before I go adding in different ones. I reckon the best way to go for me at this point is to add a few scenery mods and some new textures and enjoy the basic game before adding in some of the campaign and Air Force mods and really changing things up. Thanks for all of your advice, gents!
hitman Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 FYI, many mods for 1.01 and above work just fine with 1.12 and above. Lotham forgot to mention the new A-10 that was released by Sim-Mod. If he didnt forget, then I am putting it up myself. I wouldnt fly without it. The A-10 that was made has a new and very realistic payload for the A-10, looks a lot better than the stock, and its easy to install.
