I agree that the linear way they chose for the release is the easier way, but it most surely is not the most effective way. On a personal note adding to this: The two game companies I worked with so far, always sent betas to the raters, so the final could be released globally within 2 weeks apart at maximum. ;) But that may be just my perception.

 

Maybe it well be easier to get publishing companies interested with some russian sales figures backing them up.

Just look at how many people joined the forum in the recent days, because of the apparently immanent release. I don't know if it was the best approach if that was the main goal. But again, that was my personal opinion and experience. I don't know enough of ED's situation to judge on that and I don't mean to.
